    The Ultimate Computer Game

WELCOME TO ADVENTURE!! WOULD YOU LIKE INSTRUCTIONS?
    ?> y
SOMEWHERE NEARBY IS COLOSSAL CAVE, WHERE OTHERS HAVE FOUND FORTUNES IN
TREASURE AND GOLD, THOUGH IT IS RUMORED THAT SOME WHO ENTER ARE NEVER
SEEN AGAIN. MAGIC IS SAID TO WORK IN THE CAVE. I WILL BE YOUR EYES
AND HANDS. DIRECT ME WITH COMMANDS OF 1 OR 2 WORDS. I SHOULD WARN
YOU THAT I LOOK AT ONLY THE FIRST FIVE LETTERS OF EACH WORD, SO YOU'LL
HAVE TO ENTER "NORTHEAST" AS "NE" TO DISTINGUISH IT FROM "NORTH".
(SHOULD YOU GET STUCK, TYPE "HELP" FOR SOME GENERAL HINTS. FOR INFOR-
MATION ON HOW TO END YOUR ADVENTURE, ETC., TYPE "INFO".)

THIS PROGRAM WAS ORIGINALLY DEVELOPED BY WILLIE CROWTHER. MOST OF THE
FEATURES OF THE CURRENT PROGRAM WERE ADDED BY DON WOODS (DON @ SU-AI).
CONTACT DON IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, ETC.
YOU ARE STANDING AT THE END OF A ROAD BEFORE A SMALL BRICK BUILDING.
AROUND YOU IS A FOREST. A SMALL STREAM FLOWS OUT OF THE BUILDING AND
    DOWN A GULLY.

Back in the days before graphics, did anyone ever play this game?
I had a friend who built an old Heathkit 8 bit computer, and he had
    it. What a blast!

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike...
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

    rcgreen,

Wow man!!! You made me remember the old days. Of course i played it in the old and beloved Spectrum and TK90, remember? In spanish it was called "Aventura Original". What a tough game on its second part when you reach the cave.

It's good to remember old games some times

Are you able to play it again nowadays?

    Thanks for this,

    DKRR

Reminds me of Zork... I think the game you are mentioning is a little before my time. I always had fun with the text adventure games though, lots of fun! Any one still have any other text games like this laying around?

Colossal cave has been ported to C. I downloaded the source code,
compiled it in LINUX, and it works! In his README, the author issues
dire warnings against trying to compile it for windows, but what the heck.
    I have CYGWIN installed, and
it compiled fine, and runs in windows too.

    Guys,

I think you all know about emulators, they are free and legal, at least this game we're talking about is not copyrighted and you can play it for free emulated in PC if you use a good and free emulator.

Why don't you try it again?

So curiousity, who among hasn't put everything off that was supposed to be done that day, to gain one more level in his/her choice MUD. You know how everyone complains about their GPA their first year? MOst of the time it was because they went out and partied right? Oh no! Not THIS geek. Mine was because of a MUD I'd played.
