    Computer hacking

Good Noon every body. I want to know something about making the system secure. How hackers get access to computers and how i can prevent from it. I know that they use ports to get access but I want to know everything about it. Is some topic is available on net?
    regards

Well for starters: If your a XP user and your not really networked to anything then you could just dissable netbios, plug & play, file/print shareing, and other stuff. Also if you don't already have a FW you can go ahead and enable the firewall built into XP atleast intil you can find a better one...

(?!?!?!? when I first got XP M$-disabled the FW by default ?!?!?) Hummmm....
(?!?!?! Yet enabled everything else ?!?!?)

Sorry to disagree Specialist, but the builtin XP Firewall ain't worth **** and is actually a Microsoft scam.

Vaibhav22, use the search function on this site and search on firewalls, get a decent one...
(Sygate is a good win-firewall opinion, and no I don't want to start a new *Which firewal is best* discussion)
Leave that xp-firewall disabled but for the rest follow the advice from Specialist on netbios,...e.o.
Once you got this tweaked and running you can dicover the wonder world of security, by reading lots of tuts and threads.
Here's enough info to keep you busy for some months, years (who can tell )

Agreed! but atleast you can feed yourself with lies and 'pretend' to be safe for a few hours while you DL or go out and buy something else. LMAO

Lets not forget AV and trojan removal either...

    depends on your os

the security things u r trying to find out basically depends on your os
the basic thing u have to do is to scan youreself with a port scanner, and see what ports u have opened..see whitch one of them u dont need and close them even by using a fiewall (blocking some ports will cause youre computer to stop accesing some stuff..www,ftp,yahoo msn...ssh )
the best thing would be to find out who opened theese ports (who started theese services) and disable them IF U DON'T need them.
it is not recommended to install a firewall beucause they usually eat a lot of resources on win systems..and a lot of people had problems beucause of them...

I'll have to disagree with this. The security payoff is usually well worth any resource cost. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my outpost. Otherwise, everything else in this thread is good advice.

Hey specialist what exactly does your attachment have to do with the discussion in this thread?
I read somehwere, but the source escapes me at the moment, that the default xp firewall will actualy interfere with 3rd party firewall software.

Yeah alot of FW can be resource hogs but since comps are becomeing faster and stuff I really don't see a problem with them. I mean 1.5 to 2.5Ghrz and a heck of alot of ram is kinda standard nowdayz. When you think about it then its not really that bad... And not all FW go together properly but there are some firewalls you can set for incomeing/outgoing traffic but to say that they aren't needed... blehhh thats dumb unless you like being owned every now and agian.

    the question was :
How hackers get access to computers and how i can prevent from it..
i answered...close youre open ports and maybe a firewall .... but still i don't like firewalls...|The|Specialist is right 1.5 Ghz is standard nowdays but i have a celerom@400Mhz... i do not own a win XP, i got win98, so i don't know notin about XP.
w0rm3y : u r right but...google will give u a lot of results ...u will need a lifetime to read all of them to understand somtin... here on the forum are the guys who knows stuff and can help.....
and if u like i'm the newbye around here...i'm not a specialist , so i'm always wrong
