Using The PC Gameport For Other Input

Your PC Gameport can be used for custom Inputs.

I have below supplied the pinouts for the game port which I hope helps you with this.

I am currently using mine with a custom made strafing stick for quake/unreal etc.

I also use this with a microswitch to detect a drawer being opened on my desk (ment for POS)

    Pin Name Dir Description
    1 +5V > +5 VDC
    2 /B1 < Button 1
    3 X1 < Joystick 1 - X
    4 GND > Ground
    5 GND > Ground
    6 Y1 < Joystick 1 - Y
    7 /B2 < Button 2
    8 +5V > +5 VDC
    9 +5V > +5 VDC
    10 /B4 < Button 4
    11 X2 < Joystick 2 - X
    12 GND > Ground
    13 Y2 < Joystick 2 - Y
    14 /B3 < Button 3
    15 +5V > +5 VDC

Note: Direction is Computer relative Joystick.
    Note: Use 100kohm resistor.

With a couple of resistors you could use it to make a multimeter (I do not recomend this !!)
but if you have a spare old PC (and havn't used it to level your lawn yet) you could make a nice digital 4 channel osciloscope like multimeter with it !!

btw a soundcard can be easily upgraded to become a realtime 2 channel osciloscope !!

    Yes,

And the kit you recommended yesterday which I constructed last night does a rare job of automating a pool hall jinx.

    Cheers again mate.

Old pcs are also great for experimenting with linux.

    and weird hardware..

BTW I have the schema of a Commodore 64 joystick to PC joystick interface converter somewhere..
could propably attach it here if I can find it....

    the_JinX,

Not realy a mod to the soundcard, rather an addon/interface..
more to protect the pc/soundcard a buffer/isolater is used ..
Both you and tony have helped me with another idea for a family project.. using an old HOC P-100 (HOC=Heap Of Cr4p), par port to a MUX to control a lighting display, and the giggle stick port (thanks to you guys) sences light levels (oh and moisture.. hmm have 2 more free..plus the switches..hmmmmm) ..

Gee you could use the games port as a part of a simple home alarm system.. and with the Par or ser port to control camera's and sirens.... yeh whatever.....

    handy info tony..

    Cheers
