    Hmm

I don't know jack about web proxies that cache pages. Maybe SSL is not configured since you get the sign on page?? And it dies when trying to connect via secure shell?? I did find the support site http://squid.visolve.com/

Hope that helps or some Squid head shows up

    I found this quote
Hotmail: We recommend subscribing a non-Hotmail address to The Squid List. Dozens of Squid List subscribers have reported that they are unable to subscribe or receive list postings through their Hotmail address or that Hotmail is filtering The Squid List as bulk mail or spam. If you are having problems subscribing a Hotmail address, there isn't any thing we can do on our end to help you out. This has been a problem for years. In general Yahoo's free email service is far superior to Hotmail and we have never seen any problems with Yahoo or any other free email accounts, just Hotmail.
at http://www.laughingsquid.org/tentacle/faq.html (about halfway down the page). There is a lot of info on the web about this same problem that you've described. I've been looking online for awhile but I can't find anything to pin-point the problem better. *If* I manage to find a solution to your problem I'll post a link immediately.

I remember reading something about people with this problem having better success logging in through msn? You should try it and let us know if it works. Sorry but I don't remember where I read that.....should've kept a link to it before I moved on.

I found something interesting at http://linux.cudeso.be/linuxdoc/squid.php. It's number 11 on the page and here's the quote.
I had quite some problems with Squid when I wanted to use Outlook Express to collect the mails from my Hotmail-accounts. When you review the Squid-mailinglist there has been a lot traffic regarding this topic. The solution that worked for me was this :
And the solution won't fit into the quote box for some reason so here it is, one line at a time (seperated by commas). acl cudeso_lan src 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0, http_access allow cudeso_lan
    , acl extern_cudeso dstdomain www.cudeso.be,
    never_direct deny extern_cudeso, acl local-servers dstdomain cudeso.be, acl all src 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0, never_direct deny local-servers, never_direct allow all
(and that's all of it). I don't understand most of that, but I assume it's because I'm not at all familiar with SQUID so maybe it'll make more sense to you . Also, there's a much cleaner, easier to read version of the lines of code at the web site I posted a link to above^. I sincerely hope something I've posted will be of use to you.

I have the same problem using any proxy with msn. I can only access it the normal way with my real IP. Are you sure this is only a SQUID problem or is it a proxy problem?

Do u have on your cache configuration file those lines?

    acl SSL_ports port 443 563
    acl Safe_ports port 80 # http
    acl Safe_ports port 443 563 # https, snews
    acl Safe_ports port 777 # multiling http

You may also want to have squid bypass anything for hotmail.com This way, it will just allow traffic to and from without processing the request. I did this for microsoft updates.

    Try this:

    acl hotmail dstdomain .hotmail.com
    http_access hotmail
