    linux bootloader

    i previously had winxp,win98 along linux ( redhat 8.0 ).
    i encountered a problem in win98 and i had to reinstall win98 .
    then my linux bootloader was overwritten and now i am not able to access my linux partitons.
    my linux bootup floppy is also corrupted.

    Your best bet may be to boot from the CD and repair the boot loader. I'm pretty sure the linux installer will allow you to repair this without too much trouble. It should also allow you to create a new uncorrupted floppy boot disk.

    But I will try to answer your question .
    What linux distro do you use ?
    I know for a fact that with a slackware cd you can boot into your normal linux.
    At the boot prompt you can type root=/hdaX (replace X with where the root drive is)
    You can also visit http://www.bootdisk.com and get one of their bootdisk.
    You probablly want to read their manual first.

    This is easy to fix. Boot from your first redhat CD, then type linux rescue and press enter. then type chroot /mnt/sysimage and press enter. Then type grub-install /dev/hda and everything will be back the way it should be.
