I don't like country music, but I don't think that country music web sites should be DoS'd out of existence (or do I? maybe we have something there ).
Tony I think we should find away to get rid of the country music... aww lets give them a break. They release a good track every 20 albums that come out or there about, maybe...

As for blackmailing porn sites, I don't see why "Deepsy" should be doing that. Porn spam gets me irritated but that's no reason to attack the legit porn sites. Whether we believe it or not there are people out there who go online only for porn, so there's a market for it and thus why it exist. Therefore, "Deepsy" has no right to be doing what he's doing. It's just really hard I guess to get the police to get on his case on that issue.

Just imagine "Deepsy" getting real mad and views AO and sees a thread about him and gets all ballistic and start hacking AO site, that would be so un cool but am sure he would get what he's looking for eventually. So he will get his day.

    Just my thought on things....

Sure, it should be available to those who wish to view it, but how do you reduce the risk of minors coming into contact with it?
It's called being a parent and raising your children. Any parent who really wants to protect their children against this kind of thing can be 99.9% effective. You simply need to watch what your children do every moment of every day.

As your children grow, they will go thru different phases. The interest in sex is just another phase. When your children are going thru this phase, you will be aware of it (if you spend enough time with your kids).

If you're the kind of parent who "doesn't have time for that" then, your kids are doomed anyway because there is NOTHING in the world more important than your children. And, if you "don't have time" for this, well.........enough said.

I don't believe the raising and teaching of our children is up to the schools, the government or the internet. It's up to the PARENTS.

Since most of the people on this site are half my age, I would expect some resistance to my opinion.

I can't tell you if I am half your age- but I have 6 kids (4 of mine and 2 step-kids) and I agree with you completely.

My kids don't currently have an Internet connection on their computers. If they did, I would be running WEBlocker or Net Nanny or something like that.

I would also install eBlaster on each computer to monitor all email, web surfing and chat communications. I would configure it with keywords to alert me instantly if something suspicious was going on.

All of that "cyber-babysitting" aside- I would be open and frank with my kids about the dangers and pitfalls that are out there- on the Internet and in the world. Its amazing how much simply talking with your children (as opposed to "at" or "to" your children) can accomplish.

Too many parents expect the daycares and public schools to impart morals and ethics. Hell- those institutions can barely impart education. Lets let them work some of those kinks out before we give them any more responsibility!

    Great points though.

See I come from another side of that... in my household I was the one who grew up with the computer (I was a single child anyway), but I gained respect for the Internet and what was out there, just as I would anything else. I didn't have Net Nanny, or anything to block or watch the chats I had. Then again maybe I grew up in a bit of a different time, when things weren't as dramatic as they are today. But I had good parenting, and I think I turned out fine.

Personally I think that we don't need to LOCK DOWN our computers and the Internet experience from our children, we just need to be there for them. As has been said above, as long as you are in your childs life and know what's going on, you can be a parent and help guide them and explain things to them. Plus what you do at your home, is probably going to be different than what happens at your child friend's home. So it's better I think to have a talk with your kid so that they can be prepaid and educated, then for them to go over to a friends house and find it and not know how to "process" the information/experience and not be educated.

    Just a thought...

I personally don't care for porn, but when you start telling me what information I can and cannot access, you can go **** yourself, its called CENSORSHIP. People should be allowed to offer whatever they like (barring content gained through malicious exploitation of innocents) whether you like it or not is a moot point. Eliminating content you dont like is akin to beating up people who dont live up to your standards. And as for children viewing the porn, get real, porno was not invented by the internet just made more accessible (I must say porn was not particularly hard to accquire in 'the old days' if I remember fifth grade correctly.). I have a crazy idea, how about PARENTS SUPERVISE THEIR CHILDREN like they should be and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. I don't care for nazi's either but they have as much a right to offer their horsecrap as anyone else. When you start deciding what information should be censored and what shouldn't, be careful because you walk a dangerous path. You may find one day that your opinions are in the minority and you find yourself looking down the barrel of your own gun. Americans should be aware of this more than anyone, people are worried about porn as our government is slowly bleeding away our freedoms one by one under a guise of national security. Don't trade your freedom for "secuirty" you may wake up and find you're neither free, nor secure.

I have to say that is a very well stated and true point. That's what I'm talking about! Parents need to start being there and around their kids rather than pushing them off to babysitters and such who have a different view of how kids should be brought up. Plus you can't be paraniod that your kid is going to do this and that. If you raised your child correctly, he or she should be able to make the right choice, or the bottomline know they can come to their parents and ask what they should do. It's all about trust with the kids!

As for censorship, you're right. Legit porn sites that are on the Internet are just like any other company. Trueif this person wasn't out for just the money (which it seems like), then he or she wouldn't be blackmailing ANY porn site. They would be going after the kiddy porn, and the sick sites that shouldn't be there to start with because they contain illegal material! At that rate, I don't even think it would have really hit the news then.

But anyway, I was going somewhere else with this, but I started it almost an hour ago and got distracted. So sorry if it's an incomplete thought.

Basically it all boils down to personal responsibility.

If I want to look at porn, it's my responsibility.

If you don't want to look at porn, it's your responsibility.

If you don't want your children to look at porn that is your responsibility. Not the pornographer's, isp's, mine or even your kid's responsibility.

All information should be free, whether you read, view, use or personally censor it, is up to you.

What Deepsy is doing is fundamentally wrong on so many levels I don't even need to go into it.

I'm 21 and don't have any children. However, I totally agree with you, KapperDog.

I mean after all, you wouldn't let little Timmy roam a city such as New York on his own. The net is a similar place. There are a lot of terrific things here, but on the other hand, there's also a lot of dangers.

Parents need to watch which neighbourhoods Timmy is visiting on his 'puter

I always thought a new tld ".sex" perhaps would solve this, and make that domain the only legal forum for pornographic sites. How do you define porn? Does the site have images they charge for people to see? If yes = porn. This will effectively deal with a large number of sites, leaving only personal collections and such. The end result would be far simpler filtering.

However, we should never forget that without porn, the internet wouldn't be what it is. The constant developments in speed were a direct result of all those geeks wanting access to nude women the only way they could get it.

In a related note, maybe you are a part of the porn purveying industry and don't even know it compliments of the Russian Mafia. At least that's one theory.
