When I come across a site that asks to install anything at all. I block it from the normal flock of users. I can't catch all the pop ups but I take great joy in blocking those that "require" a software plugin to view their site at all. Exculding those marvelous plugins like Adobe, Flash etc....
Personally, I use AdSubtract to filter pieces of content for my pages... (and no, I don't work for them, etc) It blocks pop-ups/unders, cookies, javascript and a whole host of other things on a site-by-site basis... if you go grab it, try it for a bit and it'll drop the price on ya... I think I nab'd it for $14.95 instead of the $29.95 list -- certainly a piece of software that I think should be included in your everyday browser.
