Personally, I use AdSubtract to filter pieces of content for my pages... (and no, I don't work for them, etc) It blocks pop-ups/unders, cookies, javascript and a whole host of other things on a site-by-site basis... if you go grab it, try it for a bit and it'll drop the price on ya... I think I nab'd it for $14.95 instead of the $29.95 list -- certainly a piece of software that I think should be included in your everyday browser.

That's pretty damn clever of them, you would think the Tour people would have taken that domain name or at least attempted to recoup it like some companies have done in the past for domain name-jacking.
And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror. -from The Book of Mozilla, 7:15

Actually do you guys remember www.htomail.com? Everyone would almost always miss spell hotmail now and then, and be sent to a porn site. Actually my MOTHER of all people was the one who pointed it out to me. These days though I think big companies are trying to buy up the domain names that they think their customers will try to go to when going to that companies site. Which makes me wonder, I wonder if the DNS people are the ones putting up these "weird" sites like www.htomail.com and www.tourdefrance.com to make companies pay for more domain names.

Big cash in that stuff... heheh maybe I'm just paraniod the goverments after me too?

    Just a thought...

LOL, I have been to htomail.com many times, thanks to my typing dyslexia. I have made an attempt to buy up similar domains, because of various fraud sites. In fact the FDIC actually recommends it in a bulletin dated a few years ago - not going to go search for it, just trust me they did It's hard to think of everything and each domain cost money... at least buy the .net and .biz versions of your domains at a minimum. Who would have thought to buy paypalUSA.com or something like that to prevent fraud?

It's not that easy to get a domain changed or force someone to cease operating it. It took Pepsi and Coke years to get their domains back from squatters and those are registered trademark known across the planet. Not every country subscribes too or recognizes trade mark names. The internet authority stopped issuing trade mark domain names but only a few years ago. I am still not sure how reliable that mechanism is.

Ad blockers, I have considered ad blockers on my network but I have not seen a product I have felt comfortable deploying to all users. I am talking about blocking pop ups at the enterprise level and then being able to control them based on URL. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I just try and block the major ad producing sites at the moment.

at least domain name registration is hella cheap. You would think some genius would realize they could be sold for more than $15/year. Try $100 or $200 and people would still buy them (I know I would).

Speaking of geniuses, some genius should try to come up with a way to actually authenticate people/"organizations" buying domain names. How about that?

By the way, my name is really mafyasha Hyronesu from the West Indies and own a firm called "DomainRegistrationisInsecure". Ill take paypla.com and antoinline.com

I think one of the more (in)famous ones was whitehouse dot com (rather than dot-gov, of course). I actually had a luser at one point tell me I needed to call someone because someone had hijacked the site... *sigh* *laugh* (and yes, she was serious... same person that at one point sent me an email to tell me the mail server wasn't working -- then look mystified when I brought her printed email and set it on her desk in front of her, asking what the problem was...)

And infosecguru2 - domains haven't always been that cheap... some crazy registrars have even seemed to not have noticed that everyone else's price has dropped in to single digits... if you'd like to pay more, I'd be happy to sell you a few at a couple hundred a piece... or send you to someone else that would be happy to charge you more than you're currently paying.

Damn those sites that require plugins or try to get you to use them. I play outwar and everytime you go to the main site. Well almost everytime a box pops up asking to download MSCache if you click no an alert pops up saying "you must click YES!" and it pops up again. When you hit no it pops up an alert that says "you must click OPEN!" and a save dialog comes up. Talk about rude.
