Jupiter Media Compromises User's Data Integrity

    Greetings All:

First off, let me say very clearly and strongly to both Negative and MsMittens, the two moderators of AntiOnline, that this post was made in the CORRECT forum.

The issue that I'm discussing here is that of data integrity, which certainly falls under "Miscellaneous Security Discussions".

The Issue: Jupiter Media has started in-line advertisements. This is a practice which has gained heavy criticism by not only privacy advocates, but free speech advocates, and security professionals a like.

What is in-line advertising? Jupiter Media is now ALTERING YOUR POSTS to include advertisements in such a away, that it appears that the user making the post is the one advocating and endorsing the products that they are looking to promote.

Want examples? Watch what happens when I type in the following words. Keep in mind, that I am not doing ANY LINKING here:

    business
    computer
    networks

See what I mean? It looks like good 'ol JP is linking all of you to advertisements, doesn't it? Never mind the fact that I think that gateway computers are pieces of junk, and wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE.

This is not only an annoying practice, but an unethical one, that CERTAINLY does NOT belong on a website dedicated to information security, privacy, and data integrity.

As a responsible member of the security community, I urge you all to write Jupiter Media, and urge them to stop this practice immediately. I also urge you all to boycot any advertiser that is being promoted in such a way by this site.

Well this is a great example of why this place now sucks....I mean, they cannot even code right to place a dynamic Image and link into the top of ur post. Not to mention most querie times here used to be like 0.000000006 and now the fastest time is 0.59

I beg of you morons who now run this place to see the errors of your un thought out ways to correct this place before it goes down hill to nothing and burns. I mean your not helping the user base either, ive seen better oragnized pages on angelfire or geocities....Gimme a break

If they want to do this fine.....But for heavens sake do you have to draw attention to them by making them green? It draws my attention away from what im reading. Personally id leave the links black.

On a further note what all words can we expect this to happen with? It would be nice to know. Can we get a list posted somewhere?

Why is it that we have a new features forum if Jupiter is not going to use it to inform us of what changes they are making to the site? Perhaps our feedback would result in posts such as these not occuring. But hey why ask the us what we think when you can shove it down our throats right?
<chsh> I've read more interesting technical discussion on the wall of a public bathroom than I have at AO at times

Yeah, I was about to post about this.
I find this practice really disgusting. This is probably what will push me over the edge and make me stop posting and even reading AO.

Those huge adds, I can understand, but this, this sucks.
