    Yep its back now.

It was completely out for about 4 minutes.

I tried 5 isps and none could reack it and I couldn't ping it either.

    Strange eh ?

Did you try it in time tampa ?

thats odd, that you couldn't ping it... if you got a socket error, then the server should've been up^ i'd imagine - if it was un-ping-able then you would have gottn' a different err0r...

When it was down did you do a traceroute to see where it stopped? Perhaps network outage? ( http://www.internettrafficreport.com )

Most large sites do not return pings, they consider security just like we do Try hotmail and some others some time like Amazon, Microsoft etc.

Not a damn thing and it's been that way since firewalls got beyond the laboratories.

    Hi Mark,
Probably a totally stupid post, but I have had the same problems as you in the UK. I put it down to the telephone link, not google, but I may well be wrong. I find it often happens after heavy rain ('phones don't like water) or when there is excess traffic and you cannot connect at full speed (I use a 56.6)

Other stuff seems to misbehave as well, hence my pointing a finger at the telcos.

As I said......probably wrong as usual, but I have come across it.
