    Hdd Died!

MY 180 gig HDD DIED!!! WTF CAN I DO! At first i was just getting the ocasional corput file and i would just fix that with chkdsk but today i rebooted and it isnt even partitioned anymore. is there some software that can let me recover my files i had about 150 gig on the thing and about 500000 files for diferent apps... if i cant get them back, well... yeah... i need help if anyone knows of a way to get it all back or of a program that can do it for me. i dont want to pay a couple grand to get it fixed and i dont care how long anything you guys suggest will take i just have to get it all back! Sorry if i sounded a little odd but what would u do if u lost that much stuff? Thanx for putting up with me in advance.

There is any amounts of Data Recovery software on the market, but before thinking about that, you would have to provide some details about you system, ie O/S, filesystem, Hard drive spec, exactly what is or is not happening on booting and exact wording of any error messages. It is advisable to attempt to eliminate all possible causes of problems, before giving any specific advice

This link will lead you to a series on how to Troubleshoot hard drive failures

    http://www.zdnet.com.au/newstech/ent...67667-4,00.htm

Part 3 should be of most interest to you, as it gives details of Advanced data recovery options.

As I previously stated there are many brands of recovery software on the market; a search for data recovery software in any search engine (try Google) will turn up several . You can also seek out a company that does data recovery, rather than buying the software yourself.

Advice: Whenever you get a smart failure, even if your disk doe snot seem to be bad, backup your important stuff!
Out of curiosity what was the brand of the hdd?

The difficult thing with those big disks is that some recovery progs do not support them.

Drive rescue was free, but that one does not support NTFS and had many bugs? Now there's Filrecovery 3.0 for Windows. http://www.lc-tech.com/download.htm

Stellar disk data recovery, you can test it to see if it can see your data, you have to pay for a recover.

    RESTORER 2000 does the same

    Restorer NTFS restores from NTFS.

I didn't came across a fully functional free one with NTFS support.
