An international sporting event, the Pan American Games being held in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, has been disrupted by a computer virus.

In a media release, anti-virus software maker Sophos did not name the virus but said it had interfered with the results service at the international sporting event.

For the second day running, on Monday journalists were unable to access latest scores and results from competitions as the computer system was brought down, it said.

The glitch came on top of a long line of difficulties facing the organisers, including athletes arriving late, a fly-infested media centre, and the use of an amateurishly designed Brazilian flag at the opening ceremony.
