soryy i dont have the answer to the gquestion but i was wondering where you purchased your copy of suse. i am also new to this world and am thinking about trying a linux distro. any ways thanks for your help. and also aslong asd you steer away from the hacking questions (i learned the hard way) you will not get flammed. also if you have IRC go to irc.bytekill.net #bytekill it is full of linux fans and everyone there is really helpful.

I guess it all depends on your ISP. How do you set up a windows box to get to the net? If you can tell me that, I can step you through doing it in Linux.

Oh yeah, I would check to make sure that the box sees your NIC. I suppose the absolute easiest way to do that would be to ping loopback.

I have winxp and it auto dectects the connection.

It sees the nic in the linux os..

I can do a ping loopback.
