Spoofing my IP ???
Hi all,
I am trying to spoof my IP address. (for anonymity purposes)
I saw on the net some texts telling me to logon through an anonymous server.
do they mean I have to put the proxy address and port in the internet explorer appropriate text boxes?
what if I wanna logon to some FTP anonymously?
Thanks in advance...

Yes, put it in the proxy.
Besides, you can read a lot about proxies on AO, just put it in the search function. Although I have to admit that lately the "search function" is rather the "funny function".

There was a thread (dont remember) a few days ago listing free public proxys that
you can use/ Tyr this one http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html
And Yes as Vic stated a proxy server would allow you to conceal your IP address.
Just an FYI, you might experience slow performance depending on which proxy you use
and the connection speed of server..
Good Luck
P.S
Just to add, the possible decrease in performance is due to
possible increase in# of hops. Pick a server nearest your location
and maybe you can even call company/individual up (some have # available)
to inquire about their access speed...

Hi,
Something here is weird, I have put some proxy address and port from The Proxy4Free List in the appropriate place in Internet Explorer, but still when I go to Check your IP I can still see my real IP address.
What's wrong?
Thanks as usual.

Purifier,
You need to disable java in internet explorer. Then try and find only high anonymity proxies.
not transparent. you should search for a bunch of them. Check all your proxies before you use them. I go to this site, there are alot of resourses, including an online proxy checker. http://www.checker.freeproxy.ru/checker/. Then after you have selected a proxy, disabled java, go use a proxy judge. http://www.stilllistener.addr.com that should be it. Beware i am a newbie myself . Remember, google is full of information regarding proxies.
P.S. After you feel comfortable with the use of proxies give multiproxy a try.
