    Hey Guys,

I know I am new to this site but I found a pretty sweet site and just incase you guys haven't seen it or maybe it is alittle to beginner but, here it is - http://downloads.asp-shareware.com/showpads.php I got an advanced port scanner (Advanced Port Scanner v1.1) off the site (shareware) and it is pretty sweet it tells you which ports are opened and closed and it is really helpful since I am a beginner. So have Fun with this if it at all helps!

I use superscan It does everything I need it to do it has a port scanner, pinger and hostname resolver. ping scans and port scans using any IP range or use a text file to extract addresses from.

nmap is the most popular (as far as i can tell) i think it's great!
http://www.nmap.org and you will also need winPcap (a networking/packet library)

also, writing your own scanners can be fun / useful... i'd suggest downloading some source code sometime :-) there are tutorials on AO that show useful applications for scanners, et cetera...
yeah, I\'m gonna need that by friday...

I agree with you tampabay, I think nmap is one of the more popular ones. I also think it is a very good one also.

You can get nmap for windows, but its a POS. If you want to use nmap then I suggest getting a copy of *nix and installing it on a machine. Thats what I did.

For windows though, might I also suggest WS_Ping Pro Pack. http://www.ipswitch.com/products/WS_Ping/

YOU do have to pay for it but it does come with a trial period. Yu oughta give it a try.

Yea.. the verision of nmap for Windows/DOS is horrible, but I'm sure it'll be fixed sooner or later... I use something called Blue's Port Scan.. its a normal Port scanner, it has GUI and it gets the job done.. since I have no clue where I got the scanner (/me guessing LAN party), if you want a copy, drop me a PM...
