We are going to contact the Admin(s) of the site that is using this jerks list. His (the jerk's)web site is down and his e-mail doesn't work. I think he has gone into hiding, I found some info on the net that suggested he was placing addresses on his blacklist and then charging company's to have them removed. Smells like blackmail to me.

You have to subscribe to the list in order for the blocks to work. SPAM software such as Spam Assassin or PerlMX use these blacklists. I think the email about somebody wanting to sue the blacklist company is pretty funny as there is no law that says you have to accept email from anybody. If I choose to reject all email from your domain, or let's say your ISP. You cannot do anything about it. It would seem to me that the only people that could sue are the people who subscribe to the open relay list to begin with. However, I do not believe that there is a cost associated with it, and the usage may be as is with no guarantees.

Now having said that. We had used this list in the past and did experience issues with hosts being blocked incorrectly. For that reason and some other technical issues we stopped using the osirus blacklist. Usually you are only put onto these lists if they can confirm you have an open relay. In which case they are supposed to let you know which IP has the open relay. They can also block you if they receive valid emails that are SPAM. I would guess that this is where they usually get the wrong information. I know somebody reported my company to SpamCop for sending out a network maintenance notification. I dealt with one of the SpamCop admins and they are now rejecting all SPAM notifications from the company that reported the legitimate email as spam. The SpamCop organization seems to do a great job of removing false spam reports from their lists.

It would appear that the relays.osirusoft.com site is being rebuilt. It is showing the default apache webpage at the moment.

That is a very one sided(and kinda funny) article on the spews/SA incident. Moral of the story is if you are nice and polite things will get better. If you attack an anti-spammers news group you will pay dearly for it.(and should)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

My company was blacklisted by Osirusoft.com along with about half dozen other companies...

I do recall that while the other companies had all blacklisted us while a hole in exchange was allowing our server to act as a relay. Osirusoft specifically, didn't blacklist us until a year or more after we had fixed the issue.

At that time, I had to send them an email from my yahoo.com account to explain the situation, and was took off their list about a week or two later. I had to use yahoo because his email account would also block our companies email.

This was about 9months to a year ago...

I hope that helps in some way I remember the blacklists causing our customer service department weeks of headachs...

SPEWS and Osirusoft have been attacked for the last week or so and they have shutdown that is why you are stuck and black listed , your problem will be gone when there spews/osirusoft list is changed to another list.

Both at work and personally I've had a problem with Osirusoft.

    At work:

A large pr0n mail went out with forged headers which were from our ISPs range and as a result Osirusoft was reporting the whole ISP domain as blacklisted. Spamassassin was killing internal emails. - It took our ISP 2 months to get the blacklisting removed - 2 months based on forged headers! - These idiots don't know what they are doing.

If you are on a blacklist you can not email them (they bounce) nor can you browse their website if the IP you're browsing from is on their blacklist. Although they do state on their site that they are not a low collateral damage site, they are just being stupid IMHO.

    Personally:
I run my own mailserver which is on the end of and ADSL Modem, although the ISP is fixed I was being listed by Osirusoft as being a dial up IP and hence some sites were'nt receiving my emails. Even though I've got a perfectly good mailserver I have to relay my mail through my ISP to make sure I don't hit this problems.

I wouldn't want to bet that your problem goes away when they get their site back up.

    The site opens for me.

I get the bugzilla page (the logo is mozilla.org, and the information on there is about bugzilla.

    Main Page

This is Bugzilla: the Mozilla bug system. For more information about what Bugzilla is and what it can do, see mozilla.org's bug pages.
This is where we put in lots of nifty words explaining all about bugzilla.
But it all boils down to a choice of:
    Query existing bug reports
    Enter a new bug report
    Get summary reports

    Open a new Bugzilla account
    Forget the currently stored login
    Change password or user preferences
Plus a picture that does not show.

    Weird.....

As i was writing this post, i left the page open, and after a minute or 2, a search field opened within the page asking for a bug number or terms???

instronics, I may be wrong, but doesn't that just mean your mozilla has crashed?

    I tried relays.osirusoft.com - operation timed out.
