God I should start one of those companies like video professor then make "educational" software that teaches end-users how to point and click stuff. The fact that I'd probably make lots of $$$ from it is... well frankly its kinda sad actually.
Problem is many of those need to use the "How to use a VCR" or "DVD players for the Illiterate" before using your training series.. problem is they need view "How to turn the door Knob" tape just to figure out how to get out of their house to collect their mail..
(just got an idea for my next series on the Ciles)

    Cheers

I just bought the laptop from a buddy's computer store. I got a great deal on it, but the Bios and the Hard drive were password protected. I got around the BIOS password but the hard drive password will not reset. I was looking for a little help on how to unlock it. I do not have al lot of money to replace the hard drive. I am trying to restore it so I can give it to my wife to help her with college.

and on a further note... everyone is a newbie sometime... anyone who has questions about my ability to commit and help please visit dishwarriors.com. I help people with satelite testing questions. I spend my spare time helping others as well on forums. I read a few forums here and thought this might be the right place to get my problem solved.

I have to be honest here, my VCR clock is blinking right now. Of course, it's not that I don't know how to set it, i'm just lazy.

thank you... that is the most helpful idea I have received... unfortunately it would just be cheaper for me to buy a new drive if that is the only method of bypassing/removing the password.

I was wondering... is it possible to short out an EEPROM chip on the hard drive or something to erase the password.... or just put a magnet to it or something. I do not need the info on the drive. I am just looking for a free solution. If I have to pay money I am just going to buy a larger hard drive.

If you don't need the info just format it. Set your bios to boot from cd and throw in you windows/*nix disk and install. Dont mess with it hardware wise (the maker of the disk will most likley have a format/erase utility on their site)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
