!!! u can use "msconfig" // write it in RUN or console window

1-) deactivate all start up items
    >you can also rename folder that contain AVG and rename it back in normal mode to make unstall
    >you can do it in failsafe mode by pushing F8 on windows start up

2-) use other spyware..,virus.. scanners to check you system
    >http://www.safer-networking.org/ or http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
    >http://www.sald.com/ or other ^ online AV scanners

    3-) use regclean utilites http://freeware4u.com/modules/mydown...ile.php?lid=49

It would be advisable to have two antivirii on your system. The other will catch what the other one misses and vice versa.
Personally I dont rely too much on somethings thats for free, still AVG is good. I guess viruses are tough nowadays. Even cash cows-Norton and McAfee sometimes misses.

this is anouther free online viris scanner.

And you can go http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm to get a test file to find out if your AVG is working.

I have never run 2 AV's on 1 computer... to me its a waste of resources.

I have never had a problem with AVG. It was the only machine that caught sircam when it hit the network at my last job, McCrappy and Norton both let it through, along with a few others that people had installed on their systems.

kbddrv32.exe and vidcntl.exe are part of Syscenter otherwise known as Trojan.Win32.SysCenter which doesn't show up in AVG virus encyclopedia, so it may not stop it. It does not appear to be malicious and it appears that the only company that detects it is Fsecure.

cmdcon.exe I can not find anywhere except with some crap about windows ME.

Thanks Agent_steal. Tried trend micro online scan. It found one worm, but before i could read it cleaned and continued to scan. I still do not know it found kbddrv32.exe etc.,

In fact I manually removed some of the startup executables using msconfig>startup (win98)and also removed the files which was pointed to execute from the directories itself.

Now I have another problem. In Msconfig>startup, in the list i still could find unchecked entries which is not used any longer. Is there some kind of utility to remove these unwanted entries (like run= c:\windows\system\vidcntl.exe)

    Thanks in advance

you should be able to go into the reg to remove them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but here is where to find it in the reg.

    \Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

That for win98 it may be different for other M$ OS's

I found some free registry tools that may work for you.

    http://www.sofotex.com/download/PC_U...egistry_Tools/

I haven't tried any of them before, so I can't tell you which one to try.
    Hope this helps.
