    Anti-Virus Products - How many?

    Hi Guys,

Doing the rounds of some forums I discovered another Av company to check their products. Now this lead me to think "Just How Many AV Companies and Products Are There". Ok, I would consider the answer to be dynamic in qunatity, and the quality to be very diverse.

My first thought was to exclude the well known companies, but that is a subjective matter..
(this has been done before - I thought it was time to revive the subject , oh I was also too lazy to drag the original threads out) [edit]Check this Tutorial by noODle [/edit]

So here is what I have.. a short list .. and in no particular order..

    1. Symantec - Norton AV
    2. Trend-Micro - PC-Cillin
    3. Network Associates - McAfee
    4. Frisk Software - F-Prot
    5. Grisoft - AVG
    6. Authentium - Command Software - Command Com AV
    7. Sophos - Sophos AV
    8. Panda Software - Panda AV
    9. Leprechaun Software - Leprechaun AV
    10. GeCAd Sofware - RAV AV - or is that M$ AV
    11. SRN Micro - SOLO AV
    12. Bitdefender AV
    13. Astonsoft Software
    14. Computer Associates - eTrust - aka VET (well in some parts of the world)
    15. Kaspersky
    16. Norman
    17.

I removed the duplicates that were allready posted and dead links (I hope I got them all).

Nice posting, perhaps a AV/FW/AT list should be compiled and made sticky.

I agree with noodle about making this sticky.

How about e-safe from Aladdin Industries...............I have always had a soft spot for it, as it includes a "sandbox" and used to whinge like hell when you ran its update.

I must get my wife's box up and running again.................she was studying Spanish, and I loaded a Peruvian AV product that I was beta testing at the time

I agree it should be made into a sticky That way there people who come here will have a thread to look at and see what antivirus software is available and not ask "Does anyone know any good antivirus software for windows and where can I download it"
That which is eternal cannot die.

    Thanks for the compliments.

I have actually started rewriting the tutorial a couple of times but for some reason never got fully to it, mainly because of the dead links and there are some thing not fully covered (like anti-trojan software and anti adware (there is ad-aware but not spybot for example)).
I even made an effort in creating it in AntiCode.
I will make another effort in rewriting this and then figure out if it should be replaced or reposted or something.
I will take me some time to get it straighten it out though.

I will contact Neg or MsM once it is done.

I tend to agree with this for the following reasons:

    - Panda scans faster (at least every system I've tested it on)
    - Panda definition updates tend to come out quicker then Norton
    - When scanning in non-safe mode Panda seems to use less system resources

To name a few reasons off the top of my head...
