Ah finally, someone is coming forward to educate the curious. This place still has a hope and not just a gossip junction of lamers pretending like they know everything.

I've always posted whatever I wanted to and have never censored myself so im never gonna start that or change to please others...

I got into computers because I grew up around them. My grandma was a admin, my mom worked in tech support for awhile intil landing a few better computer related jobs. I had quit school when I was 13, most of my friends had either died or moved away so the only thing I have left was my mom's old colledge computer books & a few computers to entertain me. Like I said... it was all I had at the time so when someone calls me a "hacker" I become a bit offensive about it cause they are basicly saying that my major skill in life is sitting on my ****ing ass all day while mashing ****ing buttons. Im not proud of the fact that the hours I've spent on computers which probably equal years... years that have been wasted... and in end the end I will probably spend the rest of my days working tech-support or auto repair then waste even more of my life on electronics. I don't feel smart, I don't feel like I've contributed anything, I don't feel important. I don't need a ****ing label to enjoy computers... I do what I want just because I feel like doing things.

There is no ****ing "ranking" your either into computers or your not... and I also think the word "hacker" was ment as a complement to everyone who is into technical things... so calling yourself a "hacker" is just being stupid, a pompus pig, & not to mention greedy. Lets face the facts mostly 99.9% of the peaple reading **** like this want to label themselves as "hackers" for popularity, a job that doesn't involve phisical labor, to appear as someone who is "smart", or just for some excitment in their lame and boreing lives. All of which of course are trivial and lame reasons to become anything at all.

P.S. I just got PMed a few days ago about how to do "hacking" or "cracking" & ****. But I liked it better when there was more normal and smarter peaple running around on the board... so gee thanks alot for bringing back more ****ers here...
when was the last time you posted anything useful. Did any one ask your biography here? Thanks for posting it here anyways. Now you can give me some neg.

Point was that atleast I don't need to ****ing label myself as "hacker" to fuel my interest in computers... if I wanna do something I'll just do it for the hell of it. Face it if most of you kids didn't watch movies like hackers and sword-fish or read those "l33t" text files then the computer industry would be more open to better jobs instead of I.T. gruntwork and there would be smarter questions being asked on boards. Hell just take a look at blackcode... those guys can't even last a week without someone saying words like "noobie hacker" "please help me not be so lame" then of course questions about hotmail and sub7... its all funny but at the same time security and computer wise its all just tottaly crap. Do you want AO to become that way? I don't...

And I feel ****ing sorry for all the idiots who try installing *nix or learning languages just so they can label themselves something or become part of a scene... Im sorry but I find it lame dude. I have nothing agianst ennis or his thread... I just pity some of the peaple reading it. And your probably just mad because I probably just decribed you in one of these posts so anyways sorry if I somehow degraded and insulted what some of you just called "hacker status"... if there is such a thing as that.

For those of us who actually have to learn things - great post Ennis!

For those who were born coding in a 64 bit environment and converting ip to hex on the fly I am sure the treatise may seem somehow "beneath you" - but lighten up.

I could give less than a rat's arse about points or "status" - I am simply here to learn. If I ever feel so inclined and informed as to start a thread then so be it but until then AO seems to be a place where folks like Ennis keep things moving.
    Where\'s the ka-booom?
There was supposed to be an earth-shattering ka-booom!

You sound pretty discouraged buddy. I wouldn't worry about being stuck in tech support. I know you are capable of more than that. If you stick with the networking field, you can accomplish a whole lot more than you think. Maybe you just need to relocate. I don't think it is right for you to say that those who liked Ennis' post are trying to kiss ass. If you didn't like it that's one thing but don't attack those who did. It wasn't the best post post I've ever read but it did deserve recognition. I guess that all I can say is lighten up and try to stay positive.

    My Mood Is My Post

As silly as this may seem, I feel I will not be able to upgrade my mood for a long time.

Sorry guys... that came out all mean & rude and stuff, I guess. But my feelings stay more towards the idea that hacking is nothing more than a technological pissing contest between peaple who strive mainly for attention, money, & a reputation. I mean sure theres always the average joe blow's & the problems they cause but even on the more ethical side of things you've got guys yelling:

Guy #1 says: My source is better than yours
Guy #2 says: No you C&Ped that stuff, you dirty bitch. I'll sue you!
Guy #1 says: Thats a false accusation so my company is sueing yours... have a nice day!
    Billy G. says: !LOL! :)

AO is a community. Just like any other community, not everyone is going to share the same opinion. Frankly, reading different perspectives makes this place interesting so I am glad that there are folks here willing to throw their spin on things into the mix.

As for the paper, I think that one more thing should be made more visible. When faced with a problem, typically you end up learning more about things you never thought to even attempt before you were faced with the issue. For instance, let's say that you can't ping a host that you know is physically connected to your network. In researching why this may be happening, you may find yourself reading through documents on switched networks while searching for anything that may be causing the problem. More or less, there is a residual benefit to problem solving. You end up with much more knowledge because you had to poke in the dark trying to find the solution.
