    How To Telnet

    Telnet
With the WAC Server running on some IP adress (feel free to do it to your own PC),
connect to the ip on port 21 or telnet. To connect to yourself, the IP is 127.0.0.1.
Note: I have the new telnet, here is a screen shot

For me, to connect to an IP is (xxx is ip) o xxx.xx.x.xx
This is what it look slike to me after I connect to my WAC Server:

Welcome to WAC Server 1.4 Build 0725. (C) Foxit Software, 2002-2003
    Evaluation Version. Maximum 2 users.
    Host: XXXXXX, OS: Windows XP

Please use your Windows username and password to logon.

    Username: Xxxxxx
    Password: ****
    Domain:

From there, act like it was your own machine. Its quite easy to lean and fun.

Note:You dont need to use telnet, you might have a program called Terminal. It's like telnet, only
bigger font. Try it and see if you like it. It is located in...
    C:\Program Files\QPC\QVTNet\bin\Term.exe.
I might just put it up on the page later on... But I think telnet is better.

Erm, where exactly is the screenshot? And apart from testing to see whether the telnet server program was working, why on earth would you want to connect to your own machine?

Is this post meant to be a tutorial, or a question, or what?

    Wink

No screen shot, and no it's not meant to be a tutorial, and i have only posted this so as newbie's who are interested in TELNET can learn the basics,
As if you would notice there is not much written about TELNET.
    With is a shame.......
Because it's the best program that you could use to do a variety of things,
(AND I AM NOT TRYING TO ENCOURAGE HACKING)
SO EXPERIMENT WITH THE PROTOCOL AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT WHAT'S TO BE ACHIEVED

In your post you say 'here is a screen shot' - so where is it?

As if you would notice there is not much written about TELNET.
If a post is entitled 'How to Telnet', I would expect some sort of guide/tutorial telling me how to telnet. No?

As an aside to any newbies who are using this thread: use SSH if it is available, telnet sends plaintext passwords as opposed to encrypted ones.

Well im sorry to have dissapointed you.
As i was only trying to help others, like others have helped me, what would you rather i type out a four page text on how to hack into computers
using TELNET, UNIX,NMAP,AND OTHER TYPES OF HACKER UTILITIES.......?
i don't think so because im not here to promote hacking, im here to learn more and to further my learning in the computer security culture.....SO TO SPEAK.

If I was a newbie this would not help me out for a number of reasons.

    1. I would have no idea what a WAC server is.
    2. If I was a newb, I would have no services running on the telnet port. Therefore I would not get a banner, and it would just kick me back to a comand prompt.

As i was only trying to help others, like others have helped me, what would you rather i type out a four page text on how to hack into computers
using TELNET, UNIX,NMAP,AND OTHER TYPES OF HACKER UTILITIES.......?
In case you didn't know, UNIX is a OS, not a utility.

Also, what makes you think nmap, is a hacking tool? Have you never heard of penetration testing?

IN the above quote you say telnet helps to hack, and you do not want to promote hacking, yet you have written a little document to tyr to help people use telnet. Sorry, but it doesn't make sense.

Hey Telnet don't take what he said offensive.

The first small problem that I see, you don't even say what Telnet is.

If you have a Noob that is using Telnet, atleast tell them what it is and what it is used for, know for the fact as to if this is a Tutorial or not, you just spurting Knowledge which I for one have no problem with, there will be people that benefit from it, you have no Idea how many times I have been asked how do I telnet here or Ping that.

Just general basic knowledge but, if you don't know these things, your computer security is knida laxed. I think that if you were to start your Thread out something like.

    Telnet

    What is telnet you ask.

Well telnet is a Windows utility that allows you to connect to Remote systems.
So you have no idea what I am talking about let me help you out.

Ok let's say that I want to send you something but I have no phone no, email nothing but my computer, I can't email, what can I do, well I can connect directly to your machine and give it to you (There are dangers in letting this be done) Now, that you wonder how I would do this.

Well I will show you by having you connect to your own machine.

Go to start -->Run Type in (Command) and then type telnet 127.0.0.1 21
Now you may wonder what you just did, you have connected to your own Pc.

This can be used with other Pc's also try this.

    Telnet drill.hackerslab.org

There you are you have just Telneted to another Remote system.

Something along those lines would have your post looking pretty nice.

Oh and check the Tutorials there are a couple in there on Telnet.

AND TO ALL THOSE THAT R ACCUSING ME OF PROMOTING HACKING...
WELL I GOTTA RESPONSE TO THAT BUT I GONNA KEEP MY OPINIONS TO MYSELF
AS I HAVE LEARNT THAT IF YOU GOT NOTHING NICE TO SAY THEN DON'T BE SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL-------

OK TO CHECK IF YOU HAVE GOT TELNET GO TO YOUR DOS PROMPT
    C:\
    THEN TYPE IN THIS
    C:\TELNET
    TELNET SHOULD OPEN UP
OK THEN NOW TO THE EASY STUFF

    FTP in web sites:

1)Open up telnet and type ftp.urlhere.com 21 It should ask for a user name and password.
Put them in. If all goes well, something like the following should pop up:

220-Welcome to XXXXX Web Hosting FTP server.
220-Need help? Get all details at:
    220-http://XXXXXX.com
    220-
    220-No anonymous logins accepted.
    220 XXXXX
    user XXXXXX
    331-Enter your Yahoo! member password
    331
    pass XXXXXX
230-You are using 57.8% of your subscribed disk space
230 You have 31.631 MB of space available
    help
214-The following commands are recognized (* =>'s unimplemented).
USER QUIT MODE REST CWD STAT RMD XCUP
PASS PORT RETR RNFR XCWD HELP XRMD STOU
ACCT* PASV STOR RNTO LIST NOOP PWD SIZE
SMNT* TYPE APPE ABOR NLST MKD XPWD MDTM
REIN* STRU ALLO DELE SYST XMKD CDUP
    214 Direct comments to XXXXXX.com
    help CDUP
214 Syntax: CDUP (change to parent directory)
    help ACCT
    214 ACCT \t(specify account); unimplemented
    help REIN
214 REIN \t(reinitialize server state); unimplemented

Everythign in bold is what I typed. Remember when you log in, type "user xxxx" not just your
user name, same for the password and everything else.

For computer (Pc must have server running, I am using the BPFTP Server that you can downlaod
    at tutorials section):

If tou enter in the IP and port correctly, this should pop up:

220 BulletProof FTP Server ready ...

When you login, it will look like this:

220 BulletProof FTP Server ready ...
    USER XXXXXX
    331 Password required for XXXXXX.
    PASS XXXXXX
530 Can't login : invalid home directory ! < Note-- Change "Home IP" to their IP in the BPFTP "Setup
USER XXXXXX User Accounts" section of th BPFTP Server
    331 Password required for XXXXXX.
    PASS XXXXXX
    230 User XXXXXX logged in.

The < Note-- Is what I put to tell you what you should do if you get that error. That won't
pop up in the telnet window or command prompt.

    FTP?

Who has accused you of promoting hacking?

As rcgreen pointed out - what's the point in telnetting to a host to ftp somewhere else? If you have telnet then in all likelihood you have ftp as well (Windows or Unix platforms).
