Not too much you can do... disable file/print sharing. Install a software firewall and block all machines on your network. Especially the "admins".

Even then... he could sniff your traffic weather you are using a hub or a switch. Depends on how smart this "admin" is.

You could put him on a different switch than the rest of you... which it'd make it harder for him to sniff because it would be a different segment. Though, not impossible.

When possible, encyrpt your traffic... but IM services don't have this yet.

Even after all that, the "admin" could gain physical access to your machine and then install a monitoring system. Physical access == no security. Especially with a 9x box. All you have to do is press escape at logon screen and it'll bypass your passwords. Not to mention all the other ways they could access your harddrive. Or BIOS password which can be reset.

I think you might have to get out the baseball bat.

If this network is at your home ,,,Who is the admin that is hacking your Pcs,,?? Does he live with you? Is this a contest of some sort to see if one of your room mates or sibling can access any of your PCs.?

Can you explain the situation a little better.?

well if he is the admin, then he/she should be able to see what you are doing and stuff. I mean, you know him right? lol more info would be nice...then we might be able to help you out

If you didn't view porn or chat with peofiles your parents wouldn't need ot check up on you, so stop and the "admin" should slow down their parenting.

If you guys are all on the same switch/hub, and you have administrator access to your own computer, I think its possible to packet-sniff the "admin"... then hack into HIS computer. And then unleash your imbecelic wrathful vengence bestowed upon to you by the Gods...

It seems to me that "admin" has the professional stuff, and you do not................I am going to get flamed for suspicion (again ), but might it be that admin's name is "daddy" or "mommy"

Not much you can do except behave yourself and earn the trust that you do not appear to deserve at present???????????

    Cheers

Nihil: I'm right with you.... We are probably both just suspicious old farts but as soon as I read the post I thought "Daddy" too.....

I also get a feeling that if "admin" finds himself blocked then users might find themselves spanked, or worse yet grounded......

well, err, if they are the admin on the network, and you decide to block the admin and you want to be a bitch to the admin, i think the admin is going to be a bitch back to you...do you get my logic? i mean, the admin was choosen admin for a reason, i dont know if this is a company computer you are working with, but the admin was obviously put there for a valid reason, and unless you have a VALID reason (admins dont "spy" on peoples computer, they fix your problems or help you, so your reason isnt valid) you shouldnt block the admin's access to your computer or there will be some nasty results. If she was not designated admin by your choice, then maybe you should leave her network or whatever she is the commander of...but then if it is a company computer, you will just piss her off and you dont want that to happen Hope i dont start a flame war here...
