    Finding product Key

    Ok am about to do a format of computer and reinstall - got everything i need backed up but I can't find product key for windows 98se anywhere >_<

    now am not asking where can i find one online or anything - just how do I view the one that is already on my computer? where i installed it last it must be storred some where so how can I find it to write it down before I wipe HD?

    Open a command prompt and type"
    find /n /i "productkey" c:\windows\system.dat

    You must include the quotations

    The result will inclode a string that will say "ProductKey <YOU PRODUCT NUMBER>"

    yeah but spools way only works on 9x. nihil method works on all M$ OS.

    spool i knew the product key was in the registry...but i never knew there was "find" too windows...thx mate

    To find a product key on this computer, I use my Belarc Advisor.....
