RegSvc?
About once a week I get a MsgBox with an OK button that says RegSvc ! the only way to close it is to click OK.
Dell, Win 98
Can anyone tell me what this is about.
Thanks

Process File: regsvc or regsvc.exe
Process Name: Remote Registry Service
Description: The Remote Registry Service allows Access to the Windows Registry from Remote Computers
Have you check your system for a Virus or Trojan?

I update and scan daily for Virus and trojan.
I found out what RegSvc is from google, but I can't figure out what's up with the MsgBox.

Do you run Adware type software or something like Spybot-S&D.
Might be worth a shot.

My suggestion would be to bring up your task manager, assuming you are using nt, 2k or xp, when the message box is still up and write down all the processes running under the processes tab. Look up the ones that you are unsure about on google and you will likely find that a program is running in the background causing this.
A question for you though. Have you gotten this message box from the first day your operating system was installed or did it start after installing any programs? Think back to when you got the first message box and try to remember what took place just before the box first started showing up.
If none of these help then go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and double click on the Remote Registry Service, click stop and change the startup type to disabled and click ok. This service is not needed unless you require remote access to your computers registry from another computer and the only time I have ever needed that is if I forgot my WinVNC password and had to recovery it from the registry. That or to mess with a friends computer by changing system colors and wallpapers.
Not sure what else to tell you other than this. Hope it helps!

I ran Spybot S&D and cleaned up my system, then disabled RegSvc from the Start-up.
Now I'll wait and see if it shows up again.
Thanks

May I suggest you browse this site:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?
It has served me well on a number of occasions, including just recently with the www.dotcomtoolbar.com spyware issue that sends a bad ActiveX control and basically blows up media player when spawned within IE.
PS
Yes, the URL I gave for dotcomtoolbar will attempt to plant the spyware on your box so DON'T go to the site.
