Which OS? And how old is this computer? When was the last time it had a virus check, internal fan check and a hard drive sector check?

Well, I would suggest doing it without it being connected. Remember that sometimes viruses have piggyback trojans with them or are trojans themselves. You don't want to open up yourself to an unnecessary attack.

rebuild it...if you still have the same problem, then it could be a hardware issue.
