I use Norton Internet Security (which is a firewall and an AV product).
I really like it for my workstaiton.

If you are looking into something for free... look at AVG. I have that on a couple of my brothers/sisters workstations and it works just fine for them.

Yes, AVG. I think it is good. It does just a good of job as Norton does... AFAIK.

Then again... I don't go downloading from untrusted sources, opening email attachments, or downloading from p2p networks.

It has caught everything my brother and sister has downloaded.

I always get the phone calls....

There is a free version and pay versions.

I installed the Free version (Grisoft FREE AVG) on the Windows partition of my laptop
And it detected all the nasties my wife downloaded (.exe's with fonts via kazaa)

It has an automatic update mechanism too, and is realy handy (hell, my parents even use it and last time I visited them they had an up-to-date version to my surprise )
ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI.

PC Cillin is also free and better than AGV. I've had better luck with it.

You might want to get something that watches after mIRC when your using it -
    try bitdefender . Its freeware.

For your antivirus, theres Avast Antivirus and Avg Antivirus

I reccommend you get one of those. Since Trend Micro (pc-cillin) has a free online virus scanner, AVG can catch what PC-Cillin misses, and vice versa.

    Online anti virus scanners-
    Trend Micro (pc-cillin)
    Bit Defender
    Panda Active Scan

In my opinion McAfee is superior to nornton. I also do not like firewalls to be bundled with anti-virii software. I use sygate because it takes low system resources and is easy to crack with a simple serial key, the update period also is unlimited. For a stand alone firewall on win32 I recommend sygate.
