Thread: Lagging net

  1. #11
Something else I haven't noticed asked yet,

Do you only see this problem when connected to the internet, or does it also type slower then normal when in other apps (like word, notepad, etc) when not connected?

If its not only when you're connected to the internet but is just more noticable when connected, then it could be that you have other apps running in the background causing your system to slowdown - things like CTFMON.

Or it could be even a more basic thing like defragging your system, when was the last time you did that?

But - if ONLY when connected to the internet, I'd go with the others suggestions and suggest you run a virus scanner and download an anti-adware/malware app such as spybot-S&D...

I would definately say that you should check for spyware/adware.

    http://www.ad-aware.com

Ad-Aware will scann you entire pc for reg keys and files that might be associated with adware and/or spyware.

It only happens when I'm on the net. Where is the best place to get adware and spyware, and which brand is the best for the adware/spyware?

The best way to start is to follow the links given here:

It wont hurt to read the information here:
    http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Running_items.htm
    http://boards.cexx.org/ (another forum..dedicated to spyware)
    http://spybot.eon.net.au/index.php?lang=en&page=start (aussi link - for Spybot S&D)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ (for Adaware - this and spybot s&d are spybot removal tools)
    I personaly recommend Spybot s&d..

Also you can run an audit on your system. using Belarc advisor, this will itemise your hardware and software, list what is in the startup etc..
    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

    This is a start..

Oh and read the Tutorials in the tutorial forums.. start with the Read this first.. and work your way from there.. If you don't know the difference between Spyware and Malware, Adware and AdAware, I would recommend reading through the tutorials before going to much further

    Cheers

    Just a suggestion:

after you download and run a spyware removal, check this link: Spyware Blaster.
It's a really good proggie that integrates it self within the dls by means of registry, and prevents the spyware from even being installed. It's NOT a cleaner.
