    Kill the "football sized" ad

I just thought some people here would really like to know this. If you add mjxads.internet.com to your HOSTS file, you will eliminate the big "football-sized" ad from the main page. ZoneAlarm left with me with a huge whitespace, which was just as annoying as the ad itself. This seems to work much better. Add the line

    127.0.0.1 mjxads.internet.com

to your HOSTS file. This is located at %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts under Windows. I believe Linux keeps it at /etc/hosts (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm running 2000 right now). This should solve most of your problems with this ad. It might get rid of other ads, too, I don't know yet.

how come no one makes suggestions for mac?? :P

yes, linux is in /etc/hosts. And so is mac OS X. Most people complain that it isn't really unix, but if you take the time to open a terminal, you will find out how it looks underneath.

Becaue I don't waste my time learning how to use a system only 4% of the computer using population uses (no offense intended). If I need to investigate on, I can pay a speacialist to investigate the 1 out of 20 boxes I get.

(Speaking hypothetically, anyway... I'm only studying forensics and security right now. These words are more o less right out of my professor's mouth)

Then why worry about linux? Mac has a larger userbase then linux. The majority of linux machines are servers, not endusers. And although there may be more installations of linux then there are osX, there are still less users, because one person may have 3 or 4 copies of linux running.

Perhaps to get this back to the original idear, this link: http://krath.dk/linux/flash_blocking/ is what I used to block the ads (although for reasons other than the size). Might be useful to other Netscape/Mozilla users.
