What distro are you using on the iMac? Yellow Dog?

    re yellow dog

    was using 2.2

but have not had up and running for a while

as it was such a long time ago i set it up and i never made any notes, thinking i could remember it all

i think i have not done something with passwords

and in all fairness the linux boxs can see all the PC files but i can not write files to the PC's which is what i wanted as they have a CD burner and my linux box does not

anyhow now trying to get win98 to share internet connection and it is not playing fair!!

what do i put for host name in the DNS server??

Try using localhost for a hostname

Also you problem with shares may be due to file permissions - can you write to them as root?
