well, its a free country, but this isnt free, and by free i mean open, information...if the people who have this information come to the conclusion that you will use it for malicious purposes (and for any other reason they feel like it), they have the right to withold that information, because, like you said, this is a free country...if you wanna know THAT BAD, theres always google

And the whole time, I was thinking, \"I\'m a grown man. I should know what goes on my head.\" And the more I thought about it... the more I realized that I should just blow my brains out and end it all. But then I thought, well, if I thought more about blowing my brains out... I start worrying about what that was going to do to my goddamn carpet. Okay, so, ah-he, that was a GOOD day, Doc. And, and I just want you to give me some pills and let me get on with my life. \" -Roy Waller

Depends on what you mean by telnet hacking, but my definition is just messing around with telnet and connecting to open ports on a machine to see what happens. Lets say you scan a machine on your home network to see if you have any ports open, if you do, one of the first things you would do is try to connect to it with telnet. say you had port 80 open. You would go to the command prompt and do this
    telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 80
where the x's are the ip of the machine. You would do that for every open port just to explore what happens. You would also go to google and type in "port 80" and see what you get. Most of the time you don't want any ports open on your computer unless you are running a server. Basically just mess around with it and see what happens. There are tuts all over the internet on using telnet. You may want to check out happyhacker, most people here hate it, but I feel for the complete newbie there is some good info on there. Happy "hacking".

You can't put a file in telnet if that's what your trying to say? Your probably not english so erm you dont know how to word it, nevermind......You see you telnet gives you remote access to a computer via a shell a shell is something where you can type all your commands etc such as ls, rm, mv, mkdir (linux commands) if you have access to the computer you can say use ftp or wget to get to download files to the computer you have remote access to.

Telnet doesn't use encryption so most people dont use telnet instead they use SSH (secure shell) this service allows complete encryption of data between the server and the client, so not vulnerable to packet sniffing.

You should probably go read abit more about how telnet is used and learn about TCP/IP and all the differnt protcols which are used with thing's like this such as TCP/UDP/ICMP , go learn about how networking is done.

When you go online and connect to something with your browser for some odd reason its never considered "l33t browser haxoring" Ummm... Unless you consider the wonderfull things that scripts and IE bugs can do. You clearly don't know a hell of alot about computers so let me just save you some frustration down the road...

First of all your dreams of becomeing elite and getting fame, glory, & all that jazz will never come true. Esspecially since your makeing a thread like this. Your nothing original. There has been a thousand of threads like this. Telneting in hopes of labeling yourself something (hacker) is about as dumb as a white guy puting mud on his face and yelling the words hey sup ya ****in nigga in the hopes of becomeing a black person for a day or two.

OK enought little kid please grow up.

hey pal, the guy just made a question. it's true, u won't become a hacker writing and reading posts, but i believe this is not the purpose of this site (in fact, if there is a site for that, that site sucks), and we made that clear to the starter of this thread. this is a place for us to share experience: you know a lot about that, i know a lot about this, etc. i think that's the way it goes. so give him a chance.

chad and jpr, please calm down and let me explain something to you. After being here for about 5 months...i've seen a helluva lot of threads about "I wanna hack" and "how can I find someone's password" and whatnot. To be honest, they're really really freegin irritating. The question that our buddy here asked, wether he speaks english or not...was: "sorry about it htis is my first time of starting a thread so please excuse me i want to know whether if we get accces to a computer through telnet how to place a file in it
    (thanks for advise grandpa) "

Please read the FAQs and the Sticky's so you can familiarise yourself with the kind of questions are not taken very favorably in AO. We are NOT here to teach ANYONE how to hack, how to Crack or how to phreak. We're here to help others prevent attacks, and we will glady help you do so. Personally, i'm not going to waste my time to teach others how to hack and i'd rather assist someone with any kind of problems they could have (Computer Related). My knowledge is not very broad on the subject but I know enough to help someone with basic information or guide them to the right location. After all, like many others, i'm here to learn.

Well...... I'm an admin so this comment kinda worries me......

What admin in there right mind uses telnet these days?
I use it quite a bit thank you......

    1. Checking my SMTP servers to see if they are up
    2. Checking remote SMTP servers to see if they are open relays
    3. Checking web pages to see of they are malicious
    4. Controlling my routers
    5. Looking at remote machines that have port 23 open.

etc. etc. etc. There's dozens of ports that you can connect to and determine things about it/the machine etc. by using telnet. I've only listed some _legal_ ones....

    I'll reverse the question.....

What kind of admin dismisses telnet as "useless"?

Maybe it's time for you to look deeper into that "overlooked" utility called telnet that comes for free.......
Don\'t SYN us.... We\'ll SYN you.....

    Tiger,

I think the question is why use a clear text protocol application like telnet when you can use ssh or another secure protocol? The answer is when you cannot use ssh effectively, efficiently or at all.
