Advices for general problems of Windwows XP (Part 2nd)

Here we are with the second part of our whole Win XP's problems and solutions thing. :P

Problems:
  • Appearence of the choice "Previous Operation System on C:" on the first menu.
  • Missing or have been deleted points of restore on "System Restore"
  • It shows a message "No Scanner Found" or "Could Not Enable TWAIN Source".
  • THe light of the scanner HP SJ4200C doesn't turn off.
  • Programmes don't run many accounts at the same time.

  • Solutions:
  • Appearence of the choice "Previous Operation System on C:" on the first menu.

After the install of Windows XP in an empty partition it's possible, while the show of Boot menu, to be and the choice "Previous Operating System on X:" (where X: the name of a drive). There is this problem because of the event that before the install of Windows XP the HDD has already partition and it was formated.
This choice can be fixed, by change the file Boot.ini in the root directory of the HDD.
  • Missing or have been deleted points of restore on "System Restore"

When the user choose the page "Select a Restore Point" in the program "System restore", it's possible to be missing files from some restore's points which has been choosed in the past.
This problem can be effect of the fact that there isn't free space in a partition of the HDD and as a result the System Restore "holds" and stops doing its job. Also, the system, when tries to free some space deletes all the restore points and when the partition has enough space it gets reactivated and make automatically a restore point.

Finally, the restore points are deleted automatically as 90 days are passed (default time of a restore point's "life") or as the user reduce the space a restore point requiries.
  • It shows a message "No Scanner Found" or "Could Not Enable TWAIN Source".

If while a scanning of a WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) machine's is in progress by a program, the user ask to cancel the progress, it is possible to show the following messages:

Could not enable TWAIN source Þ There is no scanner found

The problem is an effect of fact that the program doesn't manage correctly the value that the machine returns according to the TWAIN, as it understands the cancel message as an error message.

The user might just close the window by the error message and keep working on his/her work, as the message doesn't shows the real status of the machine. On the other hand, the user can get a newer version of the managment drivers.

It is fact that this problem doesn't appear on Windows 2000, as in this version the programmes that are terminated by the user, doesn't return any error message.
  • THe light of the scanner HP SJ4200C doesn't turn off.

The owner of the scanner ScanJet 4200C might have noticed that the light of the scanner keep turned on all the time, even if the PC is still off.

Some time ago Hewlett Packard published in its site a new updated version of the managment program of scanner SJ4200C, which fix the above problem. Those that are interested can find more info about Win XP and the Hewlett Packard's machines in this page.
  • Programmes don't run many accounts at the same time.

When there was a re-logon via the Fast User Switching, it is possible that some programmes can't be executed after the re-logon or they will show a message that says that the program is already running. The cause of these is the fact that these programmes were not made to be executed twice or more at the same time by different users. The guys that are interested can either contact the company that constructed this program, or do a normal logoff when the user changes.

I hope i help somebody and didn't spend my time without reason :P
