you probably should allow windows explorer access to the internet otherwise you might get errors if you try to open ie with webpage address from Run

I always block these two components and I do not encounter any problem. You can always allow or block them in the application list in the firewall.

I use Sygate personal firewall also and I've never had any problems with it. If in doubt, I always "block it"...and see what happens...or what "doesn't" happen...lol, whichever the case may be. Trial and error...sometimes the best way 2 learn.

I have also blocked both these components and have had no problems. however, i dont use IE, i use Opera.
However, my main reasoning behinf blocking them is that M$ is evil and is prolly trying to steal some kinda of privy info through these portals :P

Yee, That´s good if you will block all windows services as:
services.exe
LSASS.exe
svchost.exe
mstask.exe
All other programs may acces to internet. Use antispyware and Antivirus too.
I have been cracked few times and got viruses on my sygate so be carefull and block all porst that you dont need if you know which of them.

getting asked for " C:\windows\system\kernel32dll" means running os is win9x.
so there is no services, lsass or svchost
and "All other programs may acces to internet." isn't NO good solution.
