I think he's refering to Telephone numbers.
And yes, whois can give you a lot of footprinting information about a network...depening on how well educated the user is that answers the phone when you call. ("I'm such-n-such from IS, were having a problem with some user accounts. Could you give me your login and password?") You'de be amazed at how many fall for this.
Windows 9x: n. A collection of 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor. Written by a 2 bit company that can\'t stand 1 bit of competition.

I was being sarcastic,
ROFL, I was being sarcastic. As for the phone numbers, a whois will not cause the typical home user any harm. The only phone numbers you'll get is customer and tech support numbers from your ISP. A whois is good for counter-hacking, if you get the attackers IP address. You could contact the tech support of the ISP listed in the whois and report the activities of the attacker. Other than that, a whois does not know my phone number, where I work and my home adress. Thats when the white pages come handy . at least in New England.
cheers

Although I wasn't aware that McAfee had bought it.

Further investigation shows that the Express version (and probably the Pro version) have been discontinued. You can download the Express from here. This is the German version of Download ZDNet and I've got it (NeoTrace Express) running under Cross Office and Wine on Slackware.
