    CD-RW Won't RW

a couple of months ago I purchased a artec cd-rw drive it has been working fineuntil for no apperant reason it just stoppoed working in windows. I know that this is not a hardware problem as I have linux installed on the same machine and that works fine. I have also installed all the updates from windows update. I am running Microsoft Windows XP Proffesional SP1 v.2002. has anybody else got any ideas

    Thx for any help,

Have you tried to uninstall & reinstall the device? Could be corrupt drivers or dll's. Might be worth a shot.

have you checked if there is an updated driver version?

also i had a similar problem with xp pro... i know one of the patches that they have was supposed to fix it but since you dl-ed all of them that should have done it... i also i was reading that some brands of rw stop working after you dl service pack 1...

does it write at all? like does it burn closed sessions but not rw sessionss or is it everything doesn't work? also does it read?

The cdrw drive belongs to a computer with two Hard Drives's one 6gb drive running RH LINUX 8.0, and one 40gb running XP. The CDRW drive works fine on LINUX but on windows it will happilly read any disk BUT when I insert a CD-R/RW disc and try to open the writable cd folder built into windows explorer it says "E:\ is not accessible Incorrect Function" (E:\ being my cd drive) but windows does recognise the media as the cd drive logo will change to the cd-r/rw logo. I have also installed ROXIO Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum and when I try to burn a cd using that it says "There are no supported CD-Recorders available".

also... it sounds like windows is not recognizing it as a drive... i would uninstall it, unplug it from the computer and boot up..., shutdown, replug it in and restart... that will soemtimes trick it into recognizing it...

I am not running any type of cd emulators. I have tried "i would uninstall it, unplug it from the computer and boot up..., shutdown, replug it in and restart" but that didn't work either
