Weird Optical Mouse Problem

Hi everyone,


I'm having this really weird problem with my optical mouse. If i move my mouse left to right pretty fast, the pointer just goes erratic and it shakes. It just started happening. Anyone have any clue? I'm using windows XP. Could this be cause by malware?

I had the same problem with my Intellimouse......related to the USB polling interval. Is yours USB?

When was the last AV and Malware scan. Definitions up to date?
Have you looed at what processes are currently running?
Installed any new software?

Not doubting you, just had to ask to skip the obvious.

Yup, checked everything. Done AV scan, thecleaner, spybot. Thecleaner caught some trojans and cleaned them up. The mouse works fine if I move it normally. I play CS in a league and I have fast reflexes in the game. I tend to move my mouse really fast when I need to. Suddenly the mouse just goes erratic .

First, I hate to ask this, but is it a MS mouse?

Second, you might try using a different mouse pad... Sometimes optical mice go screwy if the pads not right.

There may be a way to correct this without knowing the cause. (Possibly)
Try to just increase the cursor speed, this should allow you to move the mouse slower and shorter but get the same results.

Also happens if it's a crappy optical mouse. The crappy ones can't refresh fast enough to keep up with the movement and they flip out.

its a keio mouse . I tried increasing and decreasing the cursor speed but no luck .

Before you do anything drastic, make sure your mouse pad doesn't have too many lines and stuff on it (honestly :P) which is pretty much what D0pp139an93r said. I use part of a map that's on my desk as a mouse pad and because of this the mouse sometimes jerks from side to side, goes in the wrong direction, etc. I'm just too lazy to get rid of the map.

And yes, the mouse is fine when it's not on the map.

Hi,

Try cleaning the lens with lint and a mild detergent or isopropyl alcohol. In a normal environment the lens can get striations that fill with dirt and interfere with the signal.

Go slow and the signal is clear enough to be read, go fast and it is not.

I have encountered this problem in design offices.....might be an idea to treat yourself to a Razer Boomslang and only use that one for gaming?

Just a thought?
