    Google Preference Cookie

I was doing some reading on google and it's various tricks. I stumbled on this page: http://www.google-watch.org/cgi-bin/cookie.htm

I decided to see if this works, since I have my preferences set to dispay 100 non-filtered results per page.
I followed the directions from above link, the only modification I made was when I disabled cookies I went to Tools>Internet Options>Privacy and at the bottom clicked on web site cookie over-ride and then put http://www.google.com in the list to always block cookies from.

After deleting all cookies I went back to the search page I'd bookmarked and still got 100 results on the page.

Just to be sure, I ran an identical search from my computer using the bookmarked search page and my roommates computer. My results were that mine were still unfiltered (giving more results) and still displayed 100 results per page.

After completeing several test searches I checked my cookie folder to be sure there were no google cookies...all clear there.

Unfortunately, using the google toolbar from my browser returns results using googles default settings....any ideas on how to get the toolbar to reference the bookmarked search page?

Have you checked in the registry to see if it can be defined in there?

I've never had a 'good' experience when trying to change anything in my registry, what would I be looking for?

You'd be looking for keys related to IE, web searching, and/or Google, etc.

I took some time after I wrote that reply and did a little testing myself. I basically dug around the registry, looking for any keys that I described above. I found several keys that I deemed related to the Google toolbar and web searching. I changed a few of the keys but couldn't get the Google toolbar to use the new search page. Now I'm not saying that I did a comprehensive search through the registry, so I might have missed something.

My thinking is that the Google toolbar knows where to search via a registry value - I don't think that the search page would be hard coded into the app, but I could be wrong. If that value does exist, then we could hopefully change the existing value (a search page address) with the new value (new search page address that doesn't use a cookie)...

    Wow, my 600th post, woohoo!!

I used Tuneup utilities 2003, tuneup registry editor and did a search for the term google.
    I got 112 results.
In those results I changed any data that was http://www.google.com/* to http://www.savedsearchurl/*

Searching from google toolbar still uses original search page.

On the toolbar itself there is an options button. In options you can change your "search using", selecting the google page you want to use from a drop down menu (google.com, google.ie, google.fr...etc)
none of the registry changes I made altered that list in anyway, and you are not able to enter your own.

    Ideas?

Hmmmm - I guess it's possible that the address are each of the search options (google.com, google.com.au, etc.) could be predefined and not able to be changed.....

Have you looked around for any config files in the install directory - where the Google toolbar was installed to? I check on that if I get a chance here this morning...

Still, it seems to be that it should be able to be changed somewhere along the lines...

Anybody else got any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

If I go to toolbar options and change Google page there, I find two places it changes in registry....changing those does nothing either.
