norton internet security problems
I'm working on a friends computer...the problem is after being on a website, he attempts to launch norton internet security 2002 and after a few seconds of it being open...its just plain closes the program. He's running windows 2000.....any ideas? it also locks up the administratorarea and there for cannot be uninstalled or changed.

I do not understand?
after being on a website, he attempts to launch norton internet security 2002
It should be on BEFORE he goes to a website?....I am not surprised that it is confused
Boot up normally, go into Norton and change the settings there?
then reboot to be sure that they are saved.
Make sure that it is up to date, and that you have the latest autoupdate program.
If you boot into safe mode you should be able to uninstall.
You will have to be logged in as administrator
Cheers

You might also want to do a virus scan with a write-protected floppy diskette (from a trusted source), because there are viruses that disable Norton security products. So, that might be another thing you'll want to try. You might surprise yourself in finding a virus that's doing that, and other things to your system.

Is it possible for a java/vbscript to close down programs from a webpage? Try leaving both Anti-Virus and Firewall on while visiting like Nihil said. If it still closes, use a browser that doesnt allow vbscripts to execute, like opera .
If you need to scan for viruses, but your antivirus wont open, go to housecall
Make sure you did all your critical updates.
