(alt+255) Hidden files fixed on XP?

I tried hiding a directory and somefiles by putting the little space thingy in front of them in dos and windows xp still let me open them from the gui, i'm guessing they fixed this just like they fixed the con/con exploit. anybody know if it still works and im just doing it wrong? im positive that when i held alt and entered 255 on the numpad that i saw the space come up.

I believe this is what you are after.

Next time it might be just as easy to use the site search.

nope all windows versions after 9x recognise space typed in dos and sohiding folders does not work.

You used to be able to hide files by adding ALT+255 (ΓΏ) to the file name. To reach the file again, you would have to rename it in MS-DOS and remove the ALT+255. This worked with old versions of windows (like 98 and below) because Windows wouldn't recognize the extended ASCII in the file name and would then claim that the file didn't exist. It doesn't work now unfortuneatly. I'm sure windows XP recognizes the extended ASCII in the filename. Now, just do ATTRIB +H filename.ext.

You also can right click a folder-> rename-> Alt+255 and then Go to properties, change icon and select the blank icon, so nobody sees the folder.
