Actually the only reason why I posted that article here was because I thought it was funny that someone who has been in the middle of media hype for years now is being used as what appears to be just another kind of a scare tactic.

For **** sakes, If I knew it would have been blown up into something just like everything else involveing her... then I would have never posted it here, man.

You always hope it sinks into one or two of those guys. But it prob won't sink into any of those guys. The really sad part is here we have a girl with extreme talent out there (you just don't see alot of that in girls). Now, she's basically gone and totally BLOWN that talent big time by coding nastyware. Even the police commented on how sad it is. Eliza has that kind of talent, that I can see is just beginning to get started off as a newbie at the age of 22. The FIRST thing I told her is to NOT get into trouble, because it will come down bad on you if you do. Gigabyte didn't learn this critical lesson, and now she's gonna be paying for it. Sad .

I found that offensive. Plenty of women are very talented. And did you ever stop and think that most women would not advertise their gender for (at least) 2 darn good reasons:

I do aplogize. There was no offense intended by that comment. I just have not seen (in my own experience) that many women have that kind of talent. No sexism was intended.

A movie about Georgia that was actually filmed in Northern Ontario. A friend of mine's sister won a dinner with Burt Reynolds during a radio publicity stunt while they were shooting that movie.

When I used to code (I've dropped off as of late), I used to write single PC virii that did their damage, however they never even touched a machine that was on a network. I had a stand-alone just for virii testing. I don't consider the fact that I wrote them to be a talent, I look back on it as being stupid and childish, even though I never released them. Someone who releases it is way worse. As for your comedy... I didn't laugh. Why is everyone so obsessed with these terms, white hat, grey hat, black hat... Actually, writing viruses is not a crime in most countries.

If you look in the virus descriptions of the major AV companies you will find that maybe a half of them are "not in the wild"...................they have been written in laboratories or submitted by third parties..................none of those people have been arrested, nor will they be.

To prosecute you would have to prove criminal intent? I first saw Gigabyte's site about 18 months ago when I was working with a Gigabyte MoBo and did a google search, so she hasn't been hiding in the shadows?.........hardly criminal behaviour?

All they can really go for is the Belgian equivalents of:

1. Incitement to commit a crime
2. Conspiracy to commit crime
3. Aiding and abetting
4. Accessory after the fact

All of these are pretty circumstantial and difficult to prove?

In the UK we have statutes that proscribe the sale of alcohol, fireworks, tobacco, lottery tickets etc. to people that are below a certain age, but we have no laws against supplying people with computer viruses! So it would have to be prosecuted along the lines that I have mentioned above.

I guess in the UK she would get off with a "police caution" or at worst be "bound over" in a lower court............which means having to pay a fine if you get caught again within a certain time (I think the maximum is 1 year?)

I think that it is media hype because she is a girl, and "girls generally don't do that sort of thing". That is NOT being sexist, it is being statistical
