Ugh... What is your question? Is your question is the Firewall good or is it about the blocking feature?

Help me out here, I don't get what you want to know.

Excuse me!!! You are trying to block 127.0.0.1 ??? Are you serious, or are you just using that as a generic reference?
Your reply will determine the leval of the answers you will get.

Whewwwww...thank you. You had me worried there for a while.
I really don't know alot about BlackIce, but http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1750 has a good comparison of various firewalls including BlackIce.
If you want to run a comparison with another yourself, download the Kerio firewall <http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html> and run some comparison test with it. It is an excellent firewall by the way.
Some good sites to check them against are:
    http://www.auditmypc.com/
    http://scan.sygate.com/

Hope this helps you. Welcome to 'AO'.

Interesting comment, what did you use to test it to determine that it is weak. What did you mean by direct affect? Did it block or drop the packet? That seems pretty direct to me unless I missed something. Provide us with some of your logs indicating how and where it was weak and we can probably figure it out.

input the source and the fire wall will block it,right?
As with all firewalls, they need input. Either entered by you or a default install. Don't forget to go to their FAQ section and do a search, I'm sure you will find the answer there.

As far as someone changing the config of your firewall, obviously they would have to be able to access the config utility of your firewall. "Own you" Di3 gu3z d fraz. And why would they give a hoot about your firewall if they rooted you? They'd already have their own little playground for some illegit use, just as it is.

More specific questions tend to get better answers. Help us to help you.

    cheers

If we are talking about BlackIce Defender, I seem to remember that this crappy little "firewall" had the nasty habit of dropping all protection intermittently for no apparent reason. I prefer something more robust like Conseal or @Guard. @Guard is what I currently use for Win98. It is both easy (using the rule assistant) and configurable enough for most purposes. I know @Guard is a little old in computer years, but I hate what Symantec did to it when they bought it and turned it into Norton PFW. But then, I've had a dislike for Norton products since Peter Norton sold out to Symantec.

Black ICE is weak. It wasn't originally designed as a firewall, although it was marketed as such.
Norton blows chunks, everything Symantec touches turns to crap. i.e. norton utilities....

    outpost, sygate, kerio is okay.

hope you have all the patches!

A very serious worm called "Witty" is propagating across the Internet and infecting computers that use the Black Ice or ISS Real Secure firewall products. The worm actually destroys data on a user's hard drive because it writes junk data to random locations on the drive. Version 3.6 of Black Ice Agent, Server Protection and PC Protection are vulnerable, as well as version 7.0 of Real Secure Desktop. Updates for these products are available at http://www.iss.net/download/ . If you use these products on your personal computer, you should get this update immediately.
