I changed the Date back to 2004 and rebooted my PC.

Than i realise that my Antivirus is no longer working as it Expires in 2001.

Do i have to But another Antivirus???

My friend did tell me that this prob can be solved using REGEDIT, is taht true?

You might try uninstalling the product, reboting and reinstalling... if that doesnt work you may be stuck surfing the registry... the easiest way to do this would be to uninstall, reboot... run regedit and search for any symantec strings, delete the ones you know to be associated with the antivirus (note here you can right click and export to a file any keys you want to backup, then double clicking the file will reinstall that key... a good way to save your arse in case you jack something up)

reboot after killing all the values and reinstall.... and naturally when all else fails you can most likely call symantec and explain the problem, they tend to be real good for support.

I'd go with the JRC on this one.
I also found that it's a pain to unistall Nortan or any Symnatec product.
So just cruise onto your Add remove program.
And just uninstall it that way.
    Reboot
And do a clean install of it.

Just wondering thoug you mentioned that the program expires on 2001.
Was this a trial Cd or something. Or am i missing the big picture here?

    cheers

typically the software sold in stores will have a year subscription free after that it's pay to play... as far as uninstalling symantec products the corporate and enterprise products tend to be forgiving... straight antivirus seems to uninstall well too... if it's system works your pretty much screwed he he

    1) I installed the program yesterday. YEAR = 2000.
    2) Realise that it was 2000 so i changed the date to 2004.
    3) Now i am in 2004 and my software says that it has already expire on the year 2001.
    4) Uninstall today and install again.
Still not able to use it.
As it says it has already expired on the year 2001

Symantec AV only have 1 year of life span!

    Hi,

A general comment on AV and firewall products.

As they are there to protect your system, they load on boot up (if you use the default installation). To properly uninstall them you need to do it in safe mode and probably manually delete a folder or two as well (usually inC:\program files\)

I don't know if this still works, but if you download a trial version of McAfee it may spot Norton and offer to kill it for you You can then uninstall McAfee and re-install your Norton.

Another approach is to get a "registry cleaner" application. If you uninstall Norton and run that it should automatically find the "orphan" entries so that you can remove them. I would recommend backing up the registry before you use this software, particularly if it is the first time.

    Hope that helps

    EDIT: http://www.registry-clean.net/

That one has a 15 day trial, you should be able to find others, and free ones if you google for "freeware" and "shareware" sites.

I may be missing something ? but I installed Norton NetSec 2004, and then you have to register online. I'm fairly certain that the Symantec clocks would be set to 2004. So, just call them, unless of course you have a less than 100% Symantec product ?

    Hi,
Just a quick thought & depending on your O/S you may want to try System Restore to an earlier date then try reinstalling the product - hope it helps.
