I was just going to recommend you download and install the updates manually.

Seems there have been a lot of people having problems with windows update lately.

    I know I have.

I still can't install two of them. Even if I download and install manually.

What a pain in the arse!
Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

Here is a nifty little trick for those who are fux0red by ActiveX being blocked at the firewall. Simply use the SSL windowsupdate site.

    Notice the "S" after http.

although slightly unrelated, this wont be your problem but this could be of interest

    Pirated Windows and Worms
Should Microsoft supply patches for bootleg copies?

An age old catch-22 illuminated once again by the recent Sasser outbreak among members of our Security forum: a large number of PC's run pirated copies of Windows XP, which aren't able to apply security patches because of invalid CD keys. Should these infected PC's be allowed to grab timely critical updates, simply to help lessen the impact of worms web-wide? Many users say pirates who can't find workarounds should "reap what they sow", but their infected pirated Windows boxes impact non-pirates everywhere.
Im not saying you have a bootleg copy but I thought that this article might have been of interest to someone.

That is interesting, but no, my copy is legit (OEM), and I have a hole in my pocket to prove it. Trust me!

I ended up just reinstalling again and have sinced applied all of the patches. I *think* it was a malformed .bat file that caused me all my troubles. I ran it before getting my updates.

That's just my theory, but I could be wrong. I'm no expert, and I have a few hundred reinstalls under my belt to prove it... lol

    Problem solved on my end!
