on some versions of windows you can just do this:
    start>run>msconfig
Or if you don't have msconfig (I don't in Win 2k) then you can:

    1. Check in Start -> Programs -> Startup
    2. Check in the following registry keys:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    3. Check in the [Load] and [Run] sections of win.ini

Or just download one of the programs Falcon suggested!

I use Autostart Viewer. It's a handy little program that lists programs, drivers, services, and anything else that starts up. There's a few other tools on that site that are equally as good as this one.

    Here's another link http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/f...tartupList.exe
And mjk's forgotten to mention that programs also start from control.ini(with [Load] and [Run]) and autoexec.bat
fcourse msconfig'd show you that as well

It's always good in Window's machine's to frequently check your startup folder (start>programs>startup) to see what program's are starting at bootup. That way, if you have a trojan or something strange in that folder, you could simply delete it. I know one time my neighbor had a trojan on her machine and she didn't know. When I went to the startup folder, I saw a program there called xplorer.exe which obviously isn't a program that should be there. I downloaded a trojan scanner for her and scanned it and sure enough it was a trojan horse program.

    Falcon and all,

Great lists, I like to keep almost everything shutoff during start up and leave it that way until I need it. Once in awhile some programs just won't shutdown. I downloaded the freebie "Task Terminator" program and am well pleased with it. But I would warn you though, it will shut them down with extreme prejudice , meaning if you needed it running and your select it....it's gone until you reboot again.
