    Is the cable plugged in??

Is the NIC registered in device manager?

What happens when you run winipcfg.exe ??

    Can you ping 127.0.0.1?

    Some things to start with.

    Hi, Zidzin,

Is that Internet explorer, or Windows Explorer that lets you browse?

Can you get into Control Panel, and the stuff on there?

Is it Win98 first edition or second edition.

As a first shot, try Trend Micro's "housecall" and Panda Softwares online scanner.

Also get a copy of "HijackThis and run it....................post the log (as an attachment please ) here.

It could be a variety of things we will need a bit more info.

    Cheers

    hi morgan & nihil

It is the windows explorer that lets me browse.
I can ping too. And there is no problem in connecting to net or any stuffs like that.
My only problem is I cant open my computer or network neighbourhood by double clicking
or rightclick->open on the respective icons on my desktop. every thing else is just working fine. ican open all control panel items too.

    How bout right click>properties??
    Are you on a network??

Maybe the sys admin has locked these down?

Is it just in your profile...or all profiles??

Does it happen on another machine?
