    Viruses- Purposefully built

When was the last time a seriuoslyu major virus hit the world? Are antivirus programs actually being created to stop as many viruses as they can or will they let some viruses through so that they can get more money from people to buy a newer version?

well the sasser worm suspect was caught a couple of weeks back .. the release of his worm was a very major incident .... antivirus programs are made and the updates are downloaded from the company's site to keep the scanners up to date, if anti virus scanners are not up to date thats when virii can slip through and start causing trouble ..

if you are interested securityfocus (yes im a big fan of www.securityfocus.com) has this area of their site dedicated to virii http://www.securityfocus.com/virus

also if you do a search on google ( www.google.com ) for "computer virus" or something along those lines you will get heaps of info.

If you hold a virus scanner then the updates are free

    jpluta,

Well I don't believe the money motivation works to well since many AV programs are free.. Granted there's advertisement in some of the free versions with hopes of procurement.

I would be interested in what you consider major or serious as well. A virus infestation at only one company can cost millions. That tends to seem pretty important. And it is just as important to the smaller networks as well. Some folks are struggling to make a buck, and then all the sudden, bam!, it's down time and money lost.

Additionally, viruses are mutated quickly if folks have the source code, so it is a never ending battle against the deviants who release those critters.

    cheers

Well I would start off by using spell checker before you post. No **** they stop viruses. People don't pay per update at all. It's usually a yearly subscription and if your AV software doesn't work you take your business elsewhere.

    -Cheers-
