RFC Downloads

hey guys, this is my first post and i wanted to ask you a thing. i ve heard that rfc's are a great source of knowledge. does anyone know where i can find them or can someone tell me whether they are of any great use or not

They are an excellent understanding of the theory of what is part of a network and security. However, remember that theory and implimentation are often two different beasties.

for example. Or use this syntax to go directly to:
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfcxxxx.txt
example: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1305.txt
As a source of knowledge, i would recommend that you first (if you know near nothing) read some basic books about the subject (or google it) and after go to rfc to understand more.
Go direct to them can cause brain damage :P

I like http://www.faqs.org/faqs/

It gives you FAQs and RFCs.

It is an archive and not sure if its completely up to date... but I've always found what I've needed there.

They are also experimenting with another way to organize the RFCs.

I like how they organize them into the different categories.

Indeed. RFCs can be really hard to read and understand. But they're an invaluable source of information if you want to know about the nuts and bolts of a protocoll.
