    Problem with msn

Just been havin a convo with my brother on msn. The problem is
when we started to have a voice convo we just got cut off after a few minutes.
My brother has a problem with p0rn popups when ever he opens his favorites and
most likely has all the virises and trojans known to man. Would this be the cause of
this? or could it be something else? Also i noticed rsvp.exe on my task manager and
tried to kill it after we were disconnected, but it kept on coming back.i also tried killing
it with Sysinternals Process Explorer and still wouldn't die. Had to re-boot to stop process.
Could anyone be of assistance with this? Thanks in advance,,,,, TidaL.....

    hi

Yes rsvp.exe might be related to Malware Backdoor.Spotcom

Try running the computer in Safe Mode ..then do the Virus Scan....because in safe mode hopefully these malwares would not be running.......

I suggest you do a Online scan from Housecall..see if it finds a few of them.........

A trojan Cleaner like Moosoft The Cleaner or TDS would also be good because most of the Antivirus Scanners are not that good when it comes to Trojand

And then the Adware/Spyware or cource...with AD-Aware or Spybot.........

    ...See if this helps............

SwordFish_13's recommendations should work. If we find the computer still has those popups, we might have to get real ugly with it and break out Hijackthis and CWShreader, in addition to those other programs. It does sound, at least in part, he might be experiencing Browser Hijacking as well.

***Note: Do not use Hijackthis without further consulation though, it will remove registry entrees!

    Let us know.

    cheers
    Connection refused, try again later.

if your bro hanst done many things then all the viruses and trojans and god what else is the cause for sure, make sure you boot in safe mode like swordfish said, then do couple of scans, 1 for viruses if u already have a AV software then its good if not search AO for 'Free AVs' and ull find a ton of them, also download ad-aware and sbybot S&D, they will clear off everything i think, and make sure to update them or it'l be useless...after all that i'd uninstall msn and reinstall with newwest version.
tell us later how it went

Thanks for the reply's, I have adaware/spybot and norton all up to date and used
often. I scanned with house call an all was good on this end. I also tried remote assist
and tried to google for CWShredder/Hijackthis, but was unable to load the page remotely and kept getting an error message that IE has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Very frustrating indeed. Any ideas why this is so? my brother is using xp home/sygate/ norton, and spybot. I looked at his task manager and nothing seemed out of place(for an illiterate like me that is) So i am out of ideas as to help him out, any advice would be greatly appreciated.cheers TidaL.....

Tell him to download a new broswer, either SlimBroswer or Opera or Mozilla. I get the same error from time to time and my computer is clean.

    Hi

Let me get the the problem first.....you are saying that your Brother has a Problem with Porn popups....and and most likely has all the virises and trojans known to man.....so you will have to get him to do the scanning on his computer....and did you get rid of the rsvp.exe because as far as know it's a trojan..........

    Now lets see the problems
    • Your Brothers porn Popups and Virus and tojans.....
    • MSN Voice chat discunnection in between

am i correct or am i missing something

For the first Problem Get your Brother to do all the scanning because he is the one getting all the popups not you....because if your system is clean then it might be caused from his end.......So get him working on this....why are you doing all the scanning on your computer if his computer is infected....

and Malware might be the cause of the second problem it might not be the cause ......what exactly do you mean by cut off..does your brother or you are disconnected.from the Internet....or your or your Brothers MSN messenger Crashes ........what exactly happens.

Hello, As far as i know when my brother scanned in safe mode norton didn't pick up anything or spybot only something like 300 listings in adaware. Does the usual clean and all still the same, It makes it hard he's 300 odd km away and the delay on remote assit is annoying to say the least, so i am not understanding entirely everything that's going on, not having physical control, well sort of with remote. When i was in control of his computer last night i looked for the obvious in the task manager but really couldn't conclude much and when trying to access house scan, only got an error messag and couldn't connect. Which was the end of the road for me in the help session.

Yes his computer crashes and we are disconnected from our convo on msn.

As for the rsvp.exe, my registry value for this is what it should be, rsvp.exe instead of mrsvp.exe which is the infected value, so i take it all's fine there.

What could be my next step in assisting with his problem, i would think that fixing the error message from IE would be the best thing first, then he could at least access housecall and symantec.

    Any suggestions,

All help muchly make me happy...
    cheers TidaL.....
