Microsoft Buying Network Associates

An article on CRN.com reports that Network Associates has quietly hung a For Sale sign in their yard and that first in line to purchase the security company is Microsoft. It alludes to some moves NAI has made recently as grooming itself to pave the way for purchase by Microsoft. An announcement is rumored for July 1st.

I think some companies that rely on NAI security as a primary means of protecting themselves against having Microsoft vulnerabilities exploited may see this as a detriment- too much reliance on Microsoft. Should be interesting.

In my opinion the reason for that is the bad Publicity that Microsoft has since Windows is on the Market becasuse it has so many wholes and security problems. I would also say that people are feed up with Microsoft because due to that. They even can't fix security wholes which have been long open and which Security Expert seay it is dangerous to leave it open. Because of that people are changing their OS to something which is better e.g. Linux. For that reason Microsoft wants to buy NAI to send a signal to buyers of their Windows OS that their OS will be secure and stable. But will it work? I don't think so. In order to make Windows OS better they should reprogramme the whole OS.

Come on... if your running servers off linux and its just siting there then your about as secure as a fat-ass at a school dance. The whole "its purely up to the user & nothing more" and "an OS alone won't protect jack-crap" thing REALLY shouldn't be brought back up agian.

Peaple who actually got infected with welchia, code-red, MSblaster, sasser, & (ect). I'd like to send these peaple to camps and have them exterminated in giant gas chambers disguised as showers.

The above is similiar to what I wrote some ago. I just wanna add worms like ramen and all the dumb *nix users who where infected with worms like ramen to that list. Seriously look around at the mass stupidity on both sides of the spectrum. Peaple had almost a good few weeks to a month or more to patch up for each and every one of the buffer overflows & stuff that these worms propogated on. Instead it becomes a problem and with MS you can garentee 10 times more media hype surrounds it. I dont care what OS you run... peaple are stupid. Anyone who is even more dumb than I am should be shot and killed.

I will believe Linux is more stable and less apt to be hacked when they have 95% of the market share and people with nothing bettter to do start in on them. jmho

Specialist has a piont, however oddly stated that point is, but even so it stands MS has some work to do for people to ever take it's "security" seriously.

Yes, they must build a couple of those camps as security for all those users and a few employees... then have them walk into showers as poison gas is poured into their lungs.

It is a fact that Windows2003 server is more secure than anything Linux has. The only reason worms and such are an issue is because when Microsoft finds a vulnerability, they tell the entire world about it as well as provide a patch to protect against it. If a user doesn't update it is their own darn self. I am currently working as a computer repair technician at a shop. At least 75% of the computers I get here are broken because the user is an idiot. Ugghh, I didn't know that going to porn sites would give me spyware! That email said it was from a horny girl who wanted me, I didn't know the attachment had a virus in it! I would be angry, but I have not problem charging someone $55 for me to clean off a virus (takes me 10 minutes normally). Whats that? Need me to wipe and reload Windows? Thats $110 for 20 minutes of actual work. Kind of sucks living off of other peoples stupidity. But hey, it pays the bills.

In conclusion...Don't blame Microsoft because 75% of their users are stupid idiots who shouldn't be allowed within 10 feet of a computer. If you can use Linux productively than you are already in the top 10% of computer users out there. So just because it is "secure", it is probably more a user thing than a OS thing.
