    Gmail:protecting ur privacy

Google's Gmail: A Rough Guide to Protecting Your Privacy

Google has introduced a new beta email service called "Gmail" that raises a number of privacy concerns.

While the media has largely focused on the fact that Gmail will scan the contents of your email messages in order to target ads, the more serious problem from a privacy perspective is Google's ability to link your Gmail account information with your Google web searches. By linking your complete Google search history - tagged with your name and personal details - to your email records, Google can create a highly nuanced picture of you as a reader and as a person. Such pictures present irresistible targets for government investigators, civil lawsuit plaintiffs, and even identity thieves. A single attack or disclosure could release deeply sensitive details about your life to the world without your knowledge or consent.

Excuse me, is there an airport nearby large enough for a private jet to land?

Yeah, don't worry; as of right now gmail is never going to take off. They are getting pounded by every security specialist in the world. So until they change things around it is just going to be a "buy invite only trial period"

And why the hate PM? So what if he was a little late; his info was correct.

That is a tad bit too late don't you think... PM was compelely right its old news and as of now, Google is holding strong for what I must remind you is a BETA version. As one of the lucky millions who has a Gmail acccount, I am quite impressed and would stick to Gmail. =D

Well, I can't imagine how anyone at Google came up with the idea to SCAN SOMEONE'S EMAIL FOR TARGETED ADS...geez, forget privacy, forget non-spamming emails, etc. Until that entirely changes, I won't be using Google for anything other than searches. They're the king for search engine results, so they should concentrate on that; not worry about innocently invading someone's private email. Imagine the implications if their database got cracked?

As for the hate comment by PM, who knows? Judging from his/her/its signature, the F word is dropped like bombs. Old news, while dated, is still better than no news and I, for one, am glad to have been given this link to read.

Someone, CXGJarrod, decided to neg me with the following message which I found quite amusing. ' Dont be an @ss.' Please note his l337 spelling. Apparently he thought by using an '@' sign instead of an 'a' would throw me off because I am not the l337 h4x0r he is. While I am not offended because I don't consider myself a l337 h4x0r, one must ask themselves this question; who the hell spells ass '@ss'? The answer, skiddies and dueche bags.

Hehe, I can see the point in that, but you still didn't answer the question as to why you responded the way you did. People will use spelling as they see fit, use or abuse grammar the way they want, will write fragmented and run-on sentences if they so choose, and anything else up for grabs...just like you choose to give answers like 'skiddies and deuche bags', which I might add, should be douche bags, hehe...

Thanks for that spelling correction. I will edit that in a second. The fact that his post is glowing with greenies is complete ****. Who the hell supports that? The news is very old, so it's relatively worthless. He didn't even post his own thoughts. It was just an unquoted c/p of the first part and a link.

I can agree he was right on the comment towards being late, but not in the method of presentation. Communication and presentation are key...I mean, the guy's flag doesn't seem to be anywhere in the US, and I don't even KNOW where that flag comes from. If that's an indication of his origin, you think he might be given a little bit of slack since not every country has immediate internet updates all the time and he might've just read this article and wanted to tell people?

Wtf does the dude's flag have to do with anything... I can put up a damn Afghani flag and post random letters but would you defend me saying that I don't know English? No! It's old news, its probably been posted before and the information is nothing new... imagine if your ISP got attacked... it would reveal a lot more than a simple attack on free e-mail provider that keeps track of keywords in your e-mails.

And how the hell do you update the internet??
