    windows 3.*

hey all, I'm zeroing the hd of two 1994 computers and need to put an o/s on them, they won't hold winXP and are too underpowered to run anything else, so, does anyone know where I can download any version of windows 3.*? Thanks

As far as I know, Windows 3.11 is not freeware, though I doubt Microsoft is going to lose much revenue if you download it from somewhere.

As Gore unashamedly plugs, Linux (sorry, SLACKWARE) should run fine on those machines. Make sure you don't get a newer distro like Fedora though because it will probably require too many features to run on older equipment.

    Hi Kyle,

What are the specifications of these boxes?

    1. Processor
    2. RAM (and TYPE, eg 72 pin)
    3. HDD
    4. CD?
    5. Modem
    6. Manufacturer/Model
    7. Motherboard/BIOS
    8. Do they have USB ports?

Your main problem is likely to be getting drivers?..........back in the days of 3.x they came with the peripheral device on a floppy.

Hmmmm..........1994? that should make them 486SX or DX?

You might be able to beef them up a bit and run Win95?, or even Win98?

You are quite right that WinXP is out of the question..............

    Cheers
